Full description
VelvetList is a periodic table you can actually read on a phone, paired with a quiz that turns browsing into remembering. THE TABLE All 118 elements are laid out the way chemists draw them, including the lanthanide and actinide strips. Every family gets its own colour, so the shape of the table — metals on the left, nonmetals on the right, the noble gases stacked down the last column — is visible before you read a single label. Scroll sideways to reach groups 13 to 18. Search by name, symbol or atomic number and matching tiles stay lit while the rest dim, so you never lose your place in the layout. EVERY ELEMENT IN DEPTH Tap a tile and you get the whole dossier: an animated shell diagram drawn from the element's real electron count, the full electron configuration, atomic mass, group, period and block, electronegativity on the Pauling scale, melting and boiling points in both Celsius and Kelvin, density, state at room temperature, the year it was first described and who is credited with it — plus a plain-English line on why the element matters. Step to the previous or next element without going back to the table. FIVE WAYS TO DRILL Symbol to name: read Fe, pick Iron. Name to symbol: read Tungsten, pick W. Atomic number: recall where an element sits in the sequence. Family match: sort an element into its group on the table. Mixed drill: all four, shuffled. Choose 10, 15 or 20 questions per round, and add a 10, 20 or 30 second countdown if you want the pressure. Star the elements you keep getting wrong and drill just that shortlist. PROGRESS THAT MEANS SOMETHING Every answer updates the mastery score of the element it featured. Answer three questions on an element cleanly and it is marked mastered — a tick appears on its tile, so the table itself becomes a map of what you actually know. The Record screen tracks rounds played, lifetime accuracy, your best streak and how many of the 118 you have met, with a bar chart of recent round accuracy and a breakdown of mastery by element family. Ten achievements mark the milestones, from your first finished round to mastering every noble gas. COMPLETELY OFFLINE Everything ships inside the app. There is no sign-up, no account, no advertising, no analytics and no network code at all — VelvetList works exactly the same in airplane mode. The Android release build requests no permissions whatsoever. Your name, your starred list, your quiz history and your settings live on your device and disappear when you uninstall. BUILT TO BE READABLE Dark, high-contrast interface. Turn family colours off for a neutral print-style table, hide the atomic mass for a cleaner grid, switch to compact tiles to fit more on screen, and turn on reduce motion to still every animation in the app. Good for chemistry students revising for exams, teachers wanting a table to project or hand out, science-curious readers, quiz-night regulars, and anyone who has ever wondered what element 87 is called.
