Defend It All

The zombies are coming out of the cave. They are walking down the road. Your garden is the only thing standing in their way. Defend It All is a merge defence game where your weapons are flowers. A winding road runs past your garden, and a steady stream of zombies shuffles along it from a dark cave toward the exit. Plant your defenders on the grid beside the road, and they open fire on everything that walks past. Let too many zombies reach the end, and the level is lost. PLANT, MERGE, REPEAT Every defender starts small. A little sunflower with sunglasses. A leafy sprout. A bright pink bloom. Each one shoots at the zombies in range, but on their own they are not much. The magic is in merging. Drag one plant onto another of the same level and they combine into something stronger. Two level three plants become a level four. Two level fours become a level five. Every merge brings a bigger, fiercer plant with harder hitting shots, and the jump in power is something you can see straight away on the road. Keep merging and your humble sprouts turn into towering, glowing flowers that clear the path in seconds. You can also move plants around while they are firing. Shuffle them closer to the bends where zombies bunch up, line them along the long straight, or cluster your strongest ones where the path doubles back on itself. UNLOCK MORE GROUND Your garden starts with only a few open plots. The rest sit behind padlocks. Defeat zombies to earn coins, and spend them to open new squares on the grid. More squares means more plants, more merges and more firepower along the road. Deciding whether to unlock a new plot or save for a bigger one is a choice you make every few seconds. Later plots cost more but sit right beside the busiest stretches of road. AND THEN THE BOSS Every so often something much bigger walks out of the cave. Boss zombies are tougher, slower and soak up far more damage than anything else on the road. If your garden is full of small plants, a boss will stroll right past them. You need merged, upgraded defenders in the right places to bring one down. A CHEERFUL KIND OF APOCALYPSE There is nothing grim here. The zombies are goofy and green, the plants have faces and attitude, and the whole garden is bright and colourful. It is tower defence that is easy to look at and easy to pick up, with enough strategy underneath to keep you thinking. It suits a short break or a longer session equally well. The later levels bring more zombies, faster waves and more bosses, so there is always a reason to come back and build a better defence. A FEW TIPS Merge early and often. Two strong plants do more than four weak ones. Put your best defenders on the corners. Zombies slow down at bends, and that is where the damage piles up. Keep a plot empty before a boss arrives. Being able to drop in one more plant at the last moment can save the level. Spend coins on new plots before anything else.
