Tsamaya (say: tsa-MAH-ya) means "go", as in tsamaya sentle: go well. It is a navigation app for South African drivers that plans routes around areas with a history of vehicle crime, using ratings that change with the time of day. Ratings cover Johannesburg, Pretoria, Ekurhuleni and the East Rand, the West Rand, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Rustenburg, Pilanesberg and Sun City, Mossel Bay, Secunda, and the Kruger National Park with Mbombela and the Lowveld. Everywhere else it works as an ordinary map and navigator. Lower-risk routes • Three options side by side: Fastest, Balanced and Lower-risk, each with an A to E risk grade. • Separate ratings for daytime, evening and night, and a warning when a trip will arrive after dark. • Road closures and protests picked up daily; the Balanced and Lower-risk routes go around them. • Police and roadblock notices from other drivers, spoken when they are ahead. On the road • Turn-by-turn voice guidance with a live risk readout for the road you are on. • Speed limit readout and a gentle over-speed chime. • Offline maps for places where the signal drops. • Up to four stops on one trip. If something goes wrong • SOS: one button on the drive screen calls 10111 or 112, or opens a text to your emergency contact, ready to send, with your location and a link that follows you live while you drive. • Share a trip: anyone can follow your drive live in a web browser, down to an Arrived screen. They need no app. Privacy No account, no ads, and no trip history kept on our servers unless you share a live trip. Built in Johannesburg from published crime statistics, OpenStreetMap and local review, and corrected by drivers' reports from inside the app. More at tsamayaapp.co.za. Lower-risk does not mean safe.
