Full description
Bag your first trig. Ordnance Survey built around 6,500 trig pillars between 1936 and 1962 to remap Great Britain. GPS made them obsolete decades ago — but they're still standing on summits and hillsides everywhere, which is exactly what makes them worth collecting. Trig Spotter turns finding them into a collection. FEATURES • Live GPS tracking — get within 20 metres to unlock the collect button • Proximity alerts when you come within 50 metres of a trig • Full details for every trig: elevation, OS grid reference, What3Words and coordinates • Trig details stored on your device — available with no signal (map tiles still need a connection) • Photograph each trig you collect, with optional Google Drive backup • Three share card styles for your socials • Search by place, region or What3Words • Standard, satellite and topographic maps • Progress stats by national park, county and region Free. No adverts, no tracking, no analytics. Your location never leaves your device except as part of your own optional backup. SAFETY AND ACCESS — PLEASE READ Trig Spotter shows you trig pillar locations only. It does not tell you whether you can safely or lawfully get to them. Many trig pillars stand on private land. A pillar appearing in this app is not permission to visit it. Access rights differ across the UK and Ireland — check rights of way and seek permission where needed. Pillars were sited for visibility, not ease of access. Many sit on exposed summits, steep ground, cliff edges, quarries or military ranges. Never navigate directly toward a trig without assessing the route. Don't rely on this app or your phone as your only means of navigation. Carry a map and compass, check the weather, and tell someone where you're going. You use Trig Spotter at your own risk. Trig data comes from public datasets and may contain errors.
