Full description
Four hundred and fifty paintings, from Leonardo to Modigliani, photographed by the museums that hold them and carried inside the app. Nothing streams. Nothing is a thumbnail of something better. Four rooms, and each one asks a different question of the same wall. Who Painted It gives you a canvas in its frame and four names. Detail opens on a crop the size of a thumbnail and pulls slowly back — every second you wait costs you points, so the question is not whether you know the painter but how early. Chronology comes two ways, decided by a coin flip: three works to be put in order, oldest first, or one work and four centuries to choose between. What's Wrong hangs four copies of one painting, one of which has been quietly tampered with: a patch mirrored, drained of colour, shifted round the hue wheel, or painted over from somewhere else on the same canvas. Seven ranks, from Visitor to Academician, and a rank here is not a badge. It decides which works you are asked about — the top fifth of the collection by fame at first, all of it at the end — and how close the wrong answers sit to the right one. A Visitor is offered a painter from another century. An Academician is offered a contemporary working in the same movement. A daily challenge, ten questions, the same ten for everyone whose calendar shows the same day. It is derived from the date alone, with no server and no account: the wall you are given comes from the date on your device, so it turns over at your midnight, not at someone else's. Every answer ends on the label — title, painter, year, movement, and the museum that holds it. The works are the reason to play, and a score alone throws them away. Fully offline. No account, no ads, no purchases, no timers waiting for you to come back, and no data collected — the app makes no network requests at all and works in airplane mode. Available in English, Russian and Ukrainian.
