My name is Meleby Nyika. In 2022, I graduated from Makerere University. Ready for the next chapter, I faced a common problem: I couldn't travel with my most valuable possession—the 32"" smart screen I'd bought with my own money for $200. I didn’t just need to sell the TV. I needed to extract every dollar of value possible to fund the chapter ahead. I wanted $150. I offered to sell my TV to continuing students, but their offers were below my valuation. From the comfort of my bed, I thought about how I could get the right people to know I was selling. I landed upon an online marketplace app for Uganda. But here’s the catch. Posting electronics ads on that platform wasn’t free. I took a leap of faith, paid the $3 fee to post on the app, and waited. 3 hours later: BING—BPING! My phone rang. The adrenaline was real. It was an unknown person. ""Hello chief, I saw your ad, but I only have $120."" I knew my value. I stood firm: ""The TV is in great shape—almost new. I'm only selling it because I'm traveling."" We haggled. We negotiated. We danced the marketplace dance. Finally, the gentleman settled on my price: $150. WOW. I had used a $200 TV for a year and walked away with $150. That was a great deal for me. But here's the real deal: The buyer, who got an almost-new TV for $150, also got a great deal. The online platform made the double win happen. It proved that with transparency, when you connect the right buyer and the right seller, everyone succeeds. But when I arrived in South Sudan, searching for that same seamless platform to find that mutual great deal, it simply did not exist. It was a huge, gaping hole. Since 2022, the idea has burned in my mind: If the double win is possible elsewhere, why not here? That is why Suk Sasa is here today.
