Rerun: What Did I Do Today?

What did I do this morning? Did I already take my tablets? Who rang yesterday, and what did they say? Rerun is for people who can't rely on their memory to answer that, and for the people who look after them: ADHD, brain fog from long COVID, chemo or medication, concussion and head injury, early memory decline. You write things down as they happen, or say them, or take a photo. Later, when you're not sure what happened, you open Rerun and it shows you. That is all it does. WHERE IT CAME FROM My mother had an old Nokia. When a back problem left her bedridden at 72, she began calling friends and relatives at odd hours. Only after she was diagnosed with early dementia did I understand why. She had been using the phone's recent-calls list to keep track of her day, and when a stretch of time had nothing on it, she made a call to put something there. Rerun is the timeline she was building, one that doesn't need anyone to pick up. MAKE IT A HABIT It works best as a habit: put things in as they happen, and look back over the day before bed. Writing something down and seeing it again later helps it stick. There are no streaks and no reminders, so a day you miss costs nothing. Just pick it up again. WHAT YOU SEE • Today: the last three days, every entry open. Each one says when it happened in plain words, like "This afternoon · about 3 hours ago". • Add: one button, one place to write. The camera and the microphone are in the same place. • Find: everything you have ever written. Type a word, or jump to a date. WAYS IN WITHOUT OPENING THE APP • The Add widget on your home screen. • The Today widget shows how many entries today and the latest one, with buttons to write, take a photo or record your voice. • Share text, links, photos and audio into Rerun from any other app. • Hold the app icon for Write, Photo, Voice and Search. Once you've saved, each of these puts you back where you were. WHAT IT WILL NEVER DO • No notifications. It will never remind you, nag you or count a streak. • No account and no sign-in. • No server. Your entries stay on the phone unless you back them up or share them. • No moods to rate, no tags to pick, no forms. You just write. • No ads. PRIVATE Your notes, photos and voice notes are kept in Rerun's private storage on your phone, which Android protects with the phone's own encryption and screen lock. Photos and voice notes you take in Rerun don't go into your gallery. Anything you share in is copied, and the original stays where it was. You can lock Rerun with your phone's own screen lock: the fingerprint, face, PIN or pattern you already use, so there is nothing new to remember. Backups go to a folder you choose, such as one in Google Drive. A backup is as private as the folder it's in. There is no backup password to remember, or to forget. Works with large text, in light or dark. IF YOU'RE SETTING IT UP FOR SOMEONE ELSE Rerun has no tour to click through. A new journal's first screen says what Add, Today and Find are for, and a help page is one tap away in Settings. What it won't point out is the shortcuts, so: 1. Put the Add widget or the Today widget on their home screen. 2. Choose a backup folder in Settings (the gear at the top of Today), in Google Drive if they use it. Rerun asks about this only once, after it has been in use for a while, so it's worth doing on the first day. 3. Write the first entry together. FREE Every feature, for everyone, for good.
