SMART Sideline

The SMART (Sideline Management, Assessment, & Response Techniques) Sideline App is an innovative solution designed to bridge the knowledge gap in sports medicine, specifically tailored for student-athletes' medical care. This app is the digital extension of the acclaimed SMART Workshop, a program co-developed by Steven Cole, a certified athletic trainer, and Dr. Mike Petrizzi, a board-certified primary care sports medicine physician. Recognizing that less than 20% of high schools have access to a team physician and that a similar percentage of medical schools offer sufficient musculoskeletal medicine education, SMART aims to empower primary care physicians, athletic trainers, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. It enhances their confidence and competence in handling athletic injuries both on the field and in clinical settings. The app features an extensive collection of resources including interactive content, hands-on practice modules, and evidence-based medicine guidelines. It facilitates over 75% hands-on training with faculty supervision, mirroring the workshop's emphasis on practical experience. Users can navigate through a variety of modules covering basic to advanced treatment strategies, anatomy reviews, and examination techniques within and outside of athletic gear. A cornerstone of the app is its focus on collaboration between healthcare providers and athletic trainers to ensure optimal care for athletes. There is an accompanying printed comprehensive manual and pocket guide available for purchase at www.healthylearning.com. Since its inception, the SMART Workshop has been featured at major conferences and across numerous educational platforms, testament to its effectiveness and the growing need for specialized care in athletics. This app is a must-have for anyone involved in sports medicine, providing a "between-the-lines" approach to injury management and prevention, ensuring readiness for urgent and emergent situations encountered by team physicians and athletic trainers. Ideal for both seasoned practitioners and those new to sports medicine, the SMART Workshop App is your portable mentor and guide, ensuring you're prepared to offer the best care possible at a moment's notice. Join us in advancing the quality of medical coverage for student-athletes nationwide.
