Full description
See the light. Literally. Ever held a prism up to the sun and watched white light shatter into a rainbow? SimplySpectrum is that magic trick, live, in your pocket. Point your phone at anything — a flower, a neon sign, a candle, your laptop screen — and watch the invisible architecture of light become visible in real time. What it does: 🌈 Live Spectrum Chart Breaks the camera view into pure wavelengths from 400 to 700 nm and draws a live histogram of the colors actually present in the frame. A rainbow reference bar sits underneath so you always know what you're looking at. 📍 Color Peak Detection Automatically finds and labels up to 5 dominant color peaks right on the chart. Tell a warm sunset (reds near 620 nm) from a cool LED (blues near 470 nm) at a glance. 💡 Luminosity Meter A brightness histogram with an approximate lux readout — perfect for checking how evenly a room, a desk, or a photo setup is lit. 🎨 Average Color Shows the overall average color in view, with RGB, CMYK and LAB values. Great for matching paint, comparing fabric swatches, or settling "what color is that, really?" ⚫ Extreme Light Spots Marks the brightest area with a black circle and the darkest with a white one. Instantly see where light falls and where shadows hide. ✨ Color Enhancement Boosts saturation and contrast before analysis to pull weak colors out of a washed-out scene — and shows the enhanced image right in the camera view. 🔬 Wavelength or Frequency Switch the spectrum axis between nanometers and terahertz with one tap. Same data, two perspectives. 🧩 Customizable Layout The main screen is a 2×2 grid: camera, spectrum, luminosity, and controls. Rearrange all four quadrants from Settings to build the view you want. 📸 Snapshot Capture the whole screen — charts, camera, everything — straight to your gallery and share your spectrum finds. 🔦 Torch & Camera Flip Built-in flash and front/back switching. No leaving the app. 🌗 Theme Support Light, dark, or follow the system. The camera feed always stays true to life; everything else adapts. Why you'll love it: You'll start by pointing it at random things — and that's the fun. A green leaf isn't just "green," it's a spike at 550 nm. Your phone's blue glow is a sharp peak near 460 nm. An old incandescent bulb is a broad warm hill past 600 nm. Once you start seeing the world as wavelengths, you don't go back. Photographers use it to check light balance. Teachers run live optics demos with no lab. Students finally *see* the electromagnetic spectrum they've only met in textbooks. Artists and designers explore how pigments reflect light. And the merely curious keep pulling it out to answer one irresistible question. Perfect for: - **Curious minds** who want to see light broken into its building blocks - **Students & teachers** exploring optics, physics, or color theory - **Photographers & filmmakers** checking light temperature and balance - **Artists & designers** studying how colors and pigments really work - **Makers & DIYers** experimenting with LEDs, filters, and light sources Private by design: No ads. No accounts. No tracking. SimplySpectrum has no internet permission at all — every frame is analyzed on your device and nothing ever leaves your phone. The app is fully open source. It's free, it's fast, and it turns the phone you already carry into a tool you never knew you wanted.
