Full description
Open the app, tap «Start», and the number in the middle of the screen is the sound level around you right now, in decibels. Decibel Meter: Sound Level dB uses the phone's microphone, runs the signal through the A-weighting curve that sound level meters use, and refreshes the reading several times a second. Under the big number sit three values for the whole session: «Min», «Avg» and «Max». Long-press any of them and it is on the clipboard. No sign-up, no internet, no setup. One screen, one button. WHY YOU'LL LOVE DECIBEL METER: SOUND LEVEL DB • Live reading: the big number follows the room as it changes, with two decimals, and the app icon above it glows brighter the louder it gets. • A-weighted, like a real meter: the signal passes an A-weighting filter and a 125 ms "fast" time constant, so a shout and a low hum are weighed the way your ears hear them, not just by raw signal strength. • «Min»: the quietest moment since you pressed «Start», handy for the background hum of a room. • «Avg»: an energy average of the whole session, the figure that says how loud a place really was over ten minutes, not just at its peaks. • «Max»: the loudest moment caught, down to a door slam or a passing truck. • Long-press to copy: hold the live number or any of the three values and it is copied with a short notice, ready to paste into a message or a note. • «Stop» freezes the three values on screen so you can read or copy them; «Start» begins a fresh session from zero. • Light and dark themes, 73 interface languages. HOW IT WORKS 1. Tap «Start» and allow the microphone. 2. Watch the live level, and let «Min», «Avg» and «Max» build up while you stay or walk around. 3. Tap «Stop», then long-press a value to copy it. PERFECT FOR • Checking a room: is the office, classroom or nursery as quiet as it should be? • Loud places: a concert, a workshop, a gym or a busy street. Look at «Avg» after a while and decide whether earplugs or a break make sense. • Home and neighbors: how loud is the washing machine, the party next door or the traffic at the window, with a number instead of an argument. • Comparing: the same spot at 8 am and 8 pm, a car with the windows up and down, two fans side by side. GOOD TO KNOW Phone microphones are built for voices. Very loud sound, roughly above 90 dB, and very quiet rooms can read differently from a professional sound level meter, and the app has no way to adjust the offset. For everyday awareness, a quick comparison or a "yes, it is loud in here" the app is exactly enough; for measurements with legal weight use a certified meter. TIPS • Hold the phone at arm's length with the microphone uncovered, away from your clothes. • Let it run for a minute before you trust «Avg»: a short session is dominated by its first seconds. • Copy the three values into a note with the place and time, and you have your own list of the spots you measure. YOUR DATA, ON YOUR PHONE The microphone is used only while the reading runs, no audio and no readings are kept, and nothing is uploaded. There is no sign-up. Stop the measurement and the microphone is released. A pocket sonometer in dBA: check loudness and volume in any environment, run room acoustic tests or use it as a quick noise monitor while the app is open. Decibel meter, sound meter and noise meter: check the sound level in dB with a live A-weighted reading, min, average and max, a simple noise detector for home, work, concerts and the classroom. Download Decibel Meter and put a number on the noise around you.
