Checkers - Samurai Dojo

This is checkers, the classic board game of English draughts, played against the computer in a samurai dojo. Eight painted opponents wait on the ladder, and each one's card tells you how far it looks ahead and how often it slips. Eight samurai opponents, honestly rated • From Kenta, First Student, to Ishigaki, The Wall. • The card prints the AI's own settings: "Looks 2 moves ahead · slips 30% of the time". • The last two never give a piece away, and Ishigaki opens from a studied book. • The ladder's order is measured by the engine playing itself, not guessed. • Every opponent's AI runs on your device. The Dojo Ladder campaign • Fourteen checkers duels, from the first student to The Wall. • Your first games are taught with the capture law asleep, so you learn how the pieces walk. • Three Koban Trials stand on the road. • On the ladder there is no undo. In a New Duel you get one per game. Classic checkers rules, your choice of law • The 8×8 draughts board, twelve pieces a side, and kings crowned on the far row. • American checkers by default: men capture forward only. • Or let men capture backward too. You choose before the duel. • Bushido, the forced-capture rule, is on by default. Turn it off in a New Duel. • Kings step one square. Forty moves without a capture, or a position seen three times, is a draw. A board that counts for you • Before a multi-jump, the line under the board says how many pieces it takes. • It counts down as you hop: "1 more to take". • When a chain stops on the forward-only rule, the screen says so and names the setting. Sixty-four painted samurai • Pledge one of eight banners: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Light, Shadow, Nature or Mystic. • Your opponent always flies the opposite banner, and each banner brings its own eight faces. • On the ladder, every face stays sealed until you reach it. • A painted dojo, wood-and-stone sound and optional rain on the temple roof. Fair by design • Wins earn koban. Five ranks, from Ashigaru to Daimyo. • Rank is honour: it never locks a rule or an opponent. • All eight opponents are open in a New Duel from the start. • Your record against each one is kept, takebacks included. • No energy and no wait timers.
