Carnatic Violin Tuner: Shruti

A simple Carnatic violin tuner for Indian classical violinists, with a tanpura drone built in. Pick your shruti, bow an open string, and the tuner tells you exactly which peg to turn. Made for Carnatic violin, not adapted from a guitar tuner. The four strings are shown the way you learnt them: Sa and Pa, from the thinnest string to the thickest, with the Western note under each. PICK YOUR SHRUTI (SRUTHI) OR KATTAI • Choose by note or by kattai number: 1 = C, 1½ = C#, 2 = D, 2½ = D#, 3 = E, 4 = F, 4½ = F#, 5 = G, 5½ = G#, 6 = A, 6½ = A#, 7 = B. • The app shows the four string notes for that shruti instantly. No more working out Sa Pa Sa Pa by hand. • Automatic string order: Sa Pa Sa Pa for most shrutis, and Pa Sa Pa Sa for A, A#, B, C and C# so your strings keep a safe tension. You can change it in Settings. • A tension warning when a shruti pulls a string too far from normal, with the safer order suggested. TUNE EACH STRING • Bow an open string and the tuner finds which string you are playing. • Clear advice: "Flat, tighten", "Sharp, loosen" or "In tune", with a needle showing cents. • Far out of tune? It says "Much too low, use the peg" and names the note to aim for. • Tap a string to tune only that one. • Steady needle that ignores the octave jumps a bow attack often causes. • Swara names with sthayi dots (mandra and tara), plus Western note names if you want them. TANPURA (TAMBURA) DRONE • Pa Sa Sa low-Sa drone at your shruti, like an electronic tanpura or shruti box. • Ma, Ni or Sa as the first string for ragas without Pa. • Adjustable speed and volume. • Keeps playing with the screen off, with a Stop button in the notification.
