Cipher drops you into real-world situations — ordering at a café in Madrid, asking a pharmacist about a prescription, sorting out a hotel booking — and has you talk your way through them in the language you're learning. Every mission is generated fresh by an AI model that runs entirely on your phone. There's no account to create, no Cipher servers, and no subscription: one purchase, and the whole app is yours. HOW A MISSION WORKS • Get a briefing: where you are, who you're talking to, and what you need to get done. • Speak or type your replies to an AI character who answers in your target language. • Every reply is scored, with coaching on what to say next — in your own language. • Tap any line to see a translation, or use a hint when you're stuck. • Check off each part of the objective as you go, then finish it to complete the mission and raise your capability score. TRAINING THAT ADAPTS TO YOU • Adaptive difficulty keeps each mission hard enough to grow, but not so hard you stall. • The Refinery: miss the same pattern three times and it gets isolated and drilled until you own it. • Vocab sessions: quick AI-generated quizzes across topics, with the words you miss brought back first. • Free conversation: pick any topic and practice, with corrections after every turn. LANGUAGES Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, French, Italian and English. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Mission generation, characters, scoring, feedback and translation all run on-device. Cipher has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Voice input uses speech recognition that runs on your phone, so your voice never leaves it. You can type instead at any time. GOOD TO KNOW • The first launch downloads the AI model once (about 2.6 GB). Use Wi-Fi and keep the app open until it finishes. • You'll need roughly 3 GB of free storage. • After the download, everything works offline. Voice input downloads your phone's offline speech pack for each language the first time you use it.
