The RidgeText Companion App answers the two questions that matter most in the backcountry: where am I, and what am I looking at? Text RidgeText a photo of a mountain range and ask. The app writes the photo's location, elevation, and camera direction into the message itself, so RidgeText knows exactly where you stood and which way you faced. It can name the peaks in your frame, point out a specific summit and tell you more about it, or describe the terrain ahead. Lost? Send your position and sensor readings without a photo and ask where you are. Everything travels by SMS through RidgeText, your companion for the outdoors, so it keeps working where apps and data connections don't. It can also work with satellite SMS services provided by your carrier. INSTRUMENTS THAT WORK WITH NO SERVICE • Compass with a rotating bezel for taking and holding bearings, read against true north • Tilt, an inclinometer for slopes and sighting angles • Barometer with pressure history charted on a classic barometer dial (Stormy to Very Dry) and plain-language trend readings, so you can see weather turning before it arrives • Live GPS readout: position, accuracy, elevation, and heading These offline tools are provided for free (dependent on phone sensor availability). ONE TAP TO TEXT WHERE YOU ARE Pair the app with your RidgeText number and the instruments feed your messages: • Send a photo and its details ride along as text, so they survive the trip even though carriers strip photo metadata • The compose button snapshots your position, elevation, heading, and tilt into a single ready-to-send text • Start live tracking and RidgeText records your route, then texts you a map of it when you finish (data service required for location tracking) The app never sends messages by itself. Every action opens your Messages app with the text filled in, and you tap send. WHAT RIDGETEXT SENDS BACK RidgeText is an AI assistant you text like a person. Ask it a question by SMS and it answers by SMS or MMS: • Answers about the terrain in your photos: peaks, ridges, trails, and what's behind them • Topographic trail maps and turn-by-turn directions • Weather forecasts, radar maps, and historical conditions for any peak, trail, or town • Image analysis: send a photo of a plant, animal, or object and ask what it is, get back accurate information • AI image generation: describe a scene and get the picture by MMS • AI image editing: send a photo, ask for changes, and get the edited image back in the same thread • Notes, gear lists, and reminders that actually execute, like a forecast delivered every morning • Message relay to your contacts, so the people at home get your maps and photos even when you have no data Because everything travels over text messages, RidgeText works on any phone, on one bar of signal, with data turned off, or through satellite messaging.
