Full description
Buckram is a calm, private home for the books you already own. Bring in your own EPUB and PDF files and read them in an app built for long, comfortable sessions — no account to create, no ads, no tracking, and no cloud service you have to trust with your reading life. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📖 A READER THAT GETS OUT OF THE WAY Buckram renders your books with Readium, the same open engine trusted by libraries worldwide, so complex EPUBs look the way their designers intended. • Page-turn styles that suit your mood — a realistic page curl, a smooth slide, an instant flip, or continuous vertical scrolling • Five reading themes: Paper, Sepia, Night, Greyscale, and the softly translucent Sage Glass • Typefaces chosen for real reading, including Atkinson Hyperlegible for low-vision comfort, plus Literata, Lexend, Libre Franklin, and Roboto Flex • Full control over text size, line spacing, margins, and screen brightness — adjustable without ever leaving the page • Accurate page counts and progress that stay in sync, however you like to paginate ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎧 LISTEN WHEN YOU CAN'T LOOK Turn any book into an audiobook using your device's built-in speech engine. Buckram follows along with you. • Sentence-by-sentence highlighting that tracks the narration • Optional focus blur that dims everything but the line being read • Smart text handling so abbreviations and numbers are spoken naturally • Adjustable voice, speed, and pitch ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📚 A LIBRARY THAT ORGANISES ITSELF • Look up covers and details from Open Library, Google Books, or Hardcover, and apply only the fields you want • Browse by author, series, or collection • Send books straight from your computer over Wi-Fi — open a page in your browser, enter the access code, done • Import from any folder on your device, or connect an OPDS catalog • Bookmarks, highlights, and notes, all kept with the book ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📕 LOOK IT UP WITHOUT LEAVING THE PAGE Tap any word for an instant definition. Buckram ships with WordNet 3.1 and Webster's 1913 dictionaries built in — entirely offline, so lookups work on a plane, on the train, or anywhere with no signal. You can add your own dictionaries too. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔒 PRIVATE BY DESIGN, NOT BY PROMISE This is the part we care about most. Buckram has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no tracking SDKs of any kind. There is no Buckram server. Your books, your highlights, and every page you've turned stay in a database on your own device, and we never see any of it. The app only reaches the internet when you ask it to — when you search for a cover, or open a catalog you added yourself. Everything else, including every dictionary lookup, works completely offline. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Buckram is for anyone with a shelf of files they actually want to read: the EPUBs from your favourite DRM-free shop, the PDFs you've been meaning to get to, the public-domain classics you downloaded years ago. Bring them home.

What's new

A maintenance update. Buckram now handles the screen edges and system bars on Android 15 and later without relying on parts of Android that recent versions have retired. Phones with a notch or punch-hole camera are covered too. Nothing in the app has moved, and your library, bookmarks, highlights and reading progress are untouched.
