Full description
Octant is a small collection of daily puzzles. One board per puzzle per day, the same board for everyone, and once you have played them you are done until tomorrow. A sitting takes a few minutes. THE NUMBER IN THE CORNER IS PROVEN Octant does not estimate its targets. It checks them. Open today's Meander board and your phone plays every legal arrangement of the three mirrors before you touch anything. All 2,135,328 of them. Then it tells you the best score that exists on this board, how many arrangements reach it, and what a typical guess is worth. You watch the count climb while it works. The other six carry the same guarantee by their own routes. Most run their search on your phone while you watch. Jam's is too large to finish while you wait, so it is proved by the same exhaustive method before the day ships. Either way the target is the answer to a complete search, not an opinion, and the gap between your score and it is the whole game. THE SEVEN PUZZLES MEANDER. Place three mirrors. A walker crosses an 11x11 board for 250 steps, going straight over fresh ground and turning right whenever it recrosses its own trail. Cover as much of the board as you can. CREASE. Tap dot A, then dot B. The sheet folds along their mirror line and A lands on B. Stack every dot on one point in the fewest folds. BASIN. Rain falls on a small map and runs off the edge. Drop three stones to dam it, and keep as much water as you can. JAM. Cars drive east and north until they reach the edge and leave. Drop three cones, then start the clock. Count how many are still stuck at tick 30. SCREE. A sandpile sitting one grain from collapse. You get three grains. Any cell that reaches four topples onto its neighbours, and topples set off topples. Move as much of the slope as you can. WEDGE. Stab a pin into the sheet, then cut straight lines through it until every one of the thirteen coins sits alone in its own wedge. Fewest cuts wins. OVERPRINT. Press rubber stamps onto a strip until it reads today's word. Every press prints over whatever is already there, so later ink wins. Fewest presses wins. HINTS, AND THE MARK THEY LEAVE One free hint a day, shared across all seven. No hint solves a board for you. Most describe the board rather than the solution: where it is starving, which stamp appears in no shortest solution, what one bowl would hold if you sealed it. A couple will show you one move from a best line. If you take one, your result says so. A small lamp and a count sit beside the score, on the board and in the text you copy out. There is no way to take a hint quietly. A result that took help and a result that did not should not look the same. WHAT IS NOT IN IT No account and no sign-in. Nothing in the app identifies you. No ads, no analytics SDK, no tracking, no advertising identifier. Every puzzle works offline, proven targets included. The app goes online only for hint packs: to show their prices and to confirm what you bought. Your results, your streak and your hint balance live in your phone's own storage and never leave it. Hint packs are the only thing you can buy, and you never have to. Nothing random is ever sold: no loot boxes, no paid rank, no energy timers, no cap on attempts. THE REST Every puzzle has a Practice button that deals another board, free and unlimited, that does not count. Tap a piece you have placed to take it back, reset whenever you like, and nothing is timed. A streak counts the days you played. Missing one costs you the count and nothing else. Results copy out as two or three lines of text with a small graph, so you can paste one anywhere without a screenshot. Octant is made by Raylight Limited Liability Company, California.
