Full description
Brahmi Keyboard turns your phone into a fully functional input device for the ancient Brāhmī script - the ancestor of nearly every writing system used across South and Southeast Asia today, from Devanagari and Tamil to Sinhala, Burmese, Thai, and Tibetan. Whether you're a student of Indian epigraphy, a Sanskrit or Pali enthusiast, a researcher working with Ashokan inscriptions or simply fascinated by the roots of Indic writing, Brahmi Keyboard lets you type authentic Brāhmī in any app on your device. KEY FEATURES ◆ A REAL SYSTEM KEYBOARD Installs as a system Input Method Editor (IME). Once enabled, you can switch to Brāhmī from any text field - in messengers, browsers, notes, social apps, document editors, anywhere. ◆ COMPLETE UNICODE COVERAGE Every assigned codepoint in the official Unicode Brāhmī block (U+11000 to U+1107F) is supported, including the often-missing Old Tamil and Bhattiprolu Brahmi characters and the full set of independent vowels, consonants, vowel signs, and combining marks. ◆ AUTHENTIC BRĀHMĪ NUMERALS The number row uses original Brāhmī numerals instead of Latin digits, so your text stays in-script from beginning to end. ◆ SMART VOWEL + CONSONANT INPUT Tap a consonant, then a vowel sign, and the keyboard composes the correct syllable for you. No more fighting with virama, halants, or combining marks - typing flows the way the script was meant to be written. ◆ HINT SCRIPT UNDER EVERY KEY Still learning the alphabet? Pick a secondary script from the setup screen - IPA, Devanagari, Bengali and more - and a small transliteration hint appears beneath each key on the keyboard. Switch it on while you learn, turn it off when you're fluent. ◆ BUILT-IN CHARACTER CATALOG A reference screen lists every assigned Brāhmī character grouped exactly as it appears in the official Unicode chart, with its Unicode name, pronunciation, and equivalent in your chosen hint script. The fastest way to look up a character without leaving the app. ◆ FEELS GOOD TO TYPE Haptic feedback on every key press and a popup preview of the character you're typing - the same polish you'd expect from a modern system keyboard. WHO IS IT FOR? • Students and scholars of Indian epigraphy and historical linguistics • Sanskrit, Pali, and Prakrit enthusiasts working with primary sources • Buddhist and Jain studies researchers transcribing inscriptions • Indologists, philologists, and palaeographers • Type designers and Unicode contributors • Anyone curious about the script that gave rise to the writing systems of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia PRIVACY Brahmi Keyboard does not collect, store, or transmit anything you type. There are no analytics, no trackers, no network requests, no ads, and no account sign-in. Everything happens on your device. The Brāhmī script disappeared from everyday use over a thousand years ago. Now you can carry it in your pocket and use it on a daily basis. Type mantras, transcribe inscriptions, write your name in Ashoka's letters, or simply explore one of humanity's most influential writing systems - firsthand, on your own keyboard.

What's new
