Different processing and heat treatments remain separate conditions. KNIFE provides scientifically motivated orientation. The coordinates are model values on a scale from 0 to 10, calculated or estimated from physical properties. They classify material conditions. The behaviour of a particular blade also depends on geometry, sharpening and processing. The research article linked in the app explains the foundations and scope of the model. SteelExplorer supports viewing and saving views locally. Diagram and data export are not provided. The app includes an unobtrusive banner advertisement requiring an internet connection.
