Full description
HALO is a bedside reference for High-Acuity Low-Occurrence emergencies. These are the procedures you rarely perform. They are also the ones you cannot afford to get wrong. It is built for one moment. The patient is deteriorating. You have less than a minute. You need the steps. WHAT IS INSIDE • 150 procedure and management cards. 49 are hands-on procedures, 101 are management protocols. • Airway: surgical and needle cricothyroidotomy, the failed-intubation Vortex, awake intubation, tracheostomy emergencies • Resuscitation: massive haemorrhage and MTP, traumatic cardiac arrest, resuscitative thoracotomy, undifferentiated hypotension, anaphylaxis, massive PE • Obstetric: resuscitative hysterotomy, postpartum haemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, precipitous delivery, neonatal resuscitation • Access and decompression: pericardiocentesis, finger thoracostomy, needle decompression, lateral canthotomy, intraosseous, transvenous pacing, escharotomy • 29 core ED procedures: laceration repair, regional and digital nerve blocks, arthrocentesis, abscess drainage, lumbar puncture, paracentesis, joint reductions, procedural sedation • Toxicology and environmental: acetaminophen and salicylate overdose, cholinergic and sodium-channel toxicity, methaemoglobinaemia, toxic alcohols, malignant hyperthermia, hypothermia, heat stroke • Critical care: post-intubation sedation, ventilator setup, refractory VF, post-arrest care, vasopressors, right ventricular failure • Paediatric and neonatal: sepsis, DKA, bronchiolitis, croup, the sick neonate, epiglottitis, paediatric arrest • 35 decision algorithms you walk one question at a time • A casting and immobilisation reference covering 26 injuries across 5 regions BUILT FOR THE BEDSIDE • Resus mode. Large type, tickable steps, an elapsed clock, and the screen stays awake. • Weight-based dose calculator. Enter the weight once. Every mg/kg dose on the card is worked out beside the printed rate, with ceilings flagged. • "Still failing, what am I missing?" sections for when the protocol has run out and the patient is not improving. • Typo-tolerant search that forgives one-handed typing mid-resuscitation. • Local notes on any card for your department's protocol or kit location. • Dark mode, adjustable text size, and full offline operation. HOW THE CONTENT IS MADE Built in Canada by the Preceptor team, which writes and reviews every card. Each card is checked against current guidelines and standard emergency medicine references, and lists its sources. Where sources disagree, the card says so and names both. Any card still under review is held back rather than shipped unfinished. PRIVACY HALO collects nothing and transmits nothing. There are no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no crash reporting. The app makes no network requests at all. Notes, saved cards and quiz results stay in your device's own storage. They are deleted with the app. IMPORTANT. NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR CLINICAL JUDGEMENT HALO is a reference aid for qualified healthcare professionals and trainees. It does not diagnose. It does not prescribe. It does not replace your own clinical judgement, your training, your supervision, or your local protocols and formulary. Doses, thresholds and indications must be confirmed against your institution's guidance before use. HALO is not a medical device. It is not intended for use by patients or the general public.
