Pingolin Track

Pingolin Track lets you share your location with family and close friends, and nobody else. Locations are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. The server stores only ciphertext and holds no key that can open it. It cannot see where you are, and neither can anyone outside the circle you shared with. Premium raises that to 50 members per circle, unlimited circles, places and alerts, and a full year of history. You never have to subscribe to use Track. HOW THE ENCRYPTION WORKS Locations are encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305. Keys are exchanged with X25519 and signed with Ed25519. Your password never leaves your device: sign-in uses SRP, so the server can verify you without ever receiving it. These are published, standard algorithms — nothing home-grown. Pingolin Track is not an emergency or safety service. Notifying your circle reaches only the people in that circle: no alert goes to police, fire or ambulance, and nobody at Pingolin monitors them.
