Michi - Japan Tolls & Passes

Renting a car in Japan? Before you pick it up, you have to decide whether to add a regional expressway pass. Michi calculates the tolls from your planned route, so you can compare the pass with paying the tolls as you go. THE VERDICT FIRST Plan your days and stops, then tap "Calculate tolls". Michi tells you whether to buy a pass or skip it, and how much you save either way. • See the numbers behind the verdict: pay-as-you-go tolls, the pass price, tolls the pass does not cover, and the total with the pass. • Compare every pass that fits your trip, cheapest first. • Open the recommended pass's official page before you book. PASSES COVERED • Hokkaido Expressway Pass • Tohoku Expressway Pass • Kyushu Expressway Pass • San'in-Setouchi-Shikoku Expressway Pass If your trip is outside these regions, Michi says so. It also explains when a pass covers your route but does not save you money. TOLLS FROM THE ROADS YOU ACTUALLY DRIVE Michi uses Apple Maps services to plan each leg, then estimates tolls from the expressways that route uses: NEXCO expressways, urban expressways around Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and other cities, the Honshu–Shikoku bridges, and separately tolled roads. Road names appear as they do on the signs, like 九州道. PLAN BY DAY • Add the dates you drive and the stops for each day. • Long-press a stop and drag it into a new position within the day. • Reuse recently picked places without searching for the same hotel again. • See each day's tolls, distance and driving time, then open it for leg-by-leg details and its own map. • Pass durations count calendar days, including gaps between driving days. SEE THE WHOLE ROUTE Explore your trip on an interactive map with each day's starting point labeled. Check the stops and route before making your bookings. YOUR CAR AND HOW YOU PAY • Pick your vehicle by picture: light (kei), standard, mid-size, oversized or extra large. • Compare ETC and cash tolls. Applicable ETC weekend and holiday discounts are included in the estimate. • Passes are available for standard and light cars only. For other vehicles, Michi estimates the tolls and explains why no pass applies. MORE THAN ONE TRIP Keep two trips free, including the sample trip. Each has its own days, stops, vehicle and payment method. Tap the trip's name to switch, rename or delete trips. MICHI PRO One purchase removes banner ads and lets you keep as many trips as you like. Not a subscription. Purchase through Google Play; the app shows the price for your account and region. HONEST ABOUT ITS ESTIMATES • A route with missing tariff data is marked as a minimum estimate. • Partial pass coverage may be estimated by distance. • Published ETC discount exclusions are taken into account. For dates beyond the announced calendar, Michi warns when the estimate assumes a discount. • Toll and pass data can be updated in the app. Estimates are for planning; confirm current prices, coverage and eligibility with the operators and your rental company. BEFORE YOU BOOK Check which rental companies offer the pass, the license and visitor requirements, and how to arrange it with your car. Michi compares costs; it does not sell passes or book rental cars. PRIVACY AND CONNECTION No Michi account needed. Trips and recent places are saved on your device. An internet connection is needed for place search, driving routes and maps. Search and route requests are sent to Michi's map service, which uses Apple Maps. The free app shows banner ads with separate advertising consent where required. Usage analytics and crash reporting stay off until you enable them. Control either in Privacy settings, for free or Pro. Michi's custom analytics events exclude trip names, stop names and coordinates; Google's SDK may collect device and installation information when enabled.
