환자혈액관리(Patient Blood Management, PBM)는 빈혈, 출혈 및 출혈 장애의 위험 요소를 최소화하기 위한 다학제적 개념입니다. 환자혈액관리는 수술 환자의 예후룰 개선 하기 위해 처음 개발되었습니다. 2008년부터 2012년까지 서호주에서는 정부 주도로 응급 환자를 포함하여 모든 3차 병원에 걸쳐 환자혈액관리가 주정부 차원의 표준 치료로 자리잡도록 하였으며, 그 결과 수백만 달러의 비용 절감 효과, 혈액 제품 사용의 상당한 감소 효과가 있었습니다. 2010년에는 세계 보건 총회에서 환자 혈액관리를 결의안으로 채택 승인했습니다. 환자혈액관리는 모든 환자의 혈액을 보존하고 빈혈을 관리하기 위한 다학제적 개념이며, 나아가 환자의 예후를 개선하는 동시에 의료비를 절감하기 위한 더 포괄적인 광의의 목표를 가지고 있습니다. 환자혈액관리의 중요 원칙은 환자의 개개인의 요구에 맞추어 조정 가능한 모든 적절한 조치를 사용하는 것입니다.
