Full description
Verifiable provenance for every specimen, from origin to export. AWTS is the OriginsNext Australian Wildlife Traceability System, delivering specimen-level traceability for CITES-listed species. It links every individual specimen to a secure digital record, from wild harvest and captive breeding through to CITES export, so the trade can prove it is legal, sustainable and traceable. For CITES-listed species, provenance is the condition of trade. AWTS gives each specimen a tamper-evident digital identity using durable, live-animal-safe tagging. From that point on, its origin, breeding history and chain of custody travel with it through propagation, holding, transfer and export. The first deployment traces coral and is the world's first coral traceability solution, co-designed with the coral fishery and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and funded through the Australian Government's Reef Trust, on a model built to extend to other CITES-listed species. THE PROBLEM AWTS SOLVES Records today are fragmented across the supply chain, so the link between a specimen and its origin is easily lost. Without evidence of legality, sustainability and traceability, exporters face uncertainty at the border and importing Parties face uncertainty on arrival. And the sustainable practice the industry already follows cannot readily be shown to regulators or markets. FOR WILD-HARVEST FISHERS Wild-harvest tagging is not currently mandatory, but fishers can choose to use the full platform. Register wild-harvested specimens at the point of collection, capturing species, source and location, then hold, transfer and export them with an unbroken chain of custody. Print specimen export records (SERs) to support CITES export documentation, drawn straight from the verified digital trail. FOR CAPTIVE-BREEDING FACILITIES Tag parent stock and broodstock with a unique digital identity, and record breeding, spawning and propagation events against the parent record, documenting captive-bred (C) status as it happens so it can be distinguished from wild. Keep a real-time view of holdings, transfers, mortality and discards as you work, then build export orders from verified inventory, print SERs, and share orders and their evidence directly with buyers. Government trials confirmed no discernible effect on specimen health and no increase in processing time. FOR BUYERS AND IMPORTING PARTIES Scan a specimen's digital ID to view or print its traceability records: origin, breeding history and chain of custody from source to sale. Confirm captive-bred status from verified source-code records rather than a supplier's word, and validate tamper-evident records at any point in the chain, supporting end-of-country verification on arrival. ACCESS AWTS is a business application for licensed participants in the CITES-listed wildlife trade. An active OriginsNext account is required to sign in, and compatible reader hardware is needed for tagging and scanning. If you believe you should have access, contact us at originsnext.com/contact.
