1bit: Minimalist Phone

You know that feeling. Headphones on, lying in the grass, just you and your music with no distractions. Those ten minutes on the bus with the snake game on your T9 keypad. Blocky photos your first digicam made. That is 1bit. We think the early 2000s got something right. Not just nostalgia. A clear head. No algorithm waiting when you only meant to check the time. No doomscrolling. We don't block apps. We just give you a more fun one. You keep your banking app and your transit pass, one row away when you need them. The digital detox you never have to quit. WHAT IT IS A gloriously retro phone in two colors. Just black and white pixels like the screen on your old brick phone or mp3 player from 2004. Make it your home screen and every press of home takes you to a quiet list, with the rest of your apps one row away. Or keep your launcher and open 1bit like any other app. You can switch back at any time, from inside 1bit. WHAT IS INSIDE • Music. The files on your phone, FLAC included, under an optional click wheel you can run by feel. Gapless, with an equalizer and a peak meter. • Podcasts. Search, subscribe, queue, download, sleep timer. • Web. Addiction-proof! One page at a time, no tabs, no videos. Pictures in two colors or none at all. • News. An old school RSS reader. Only the feeds you subscribe to. Save articles to your read-later shelf. • Camera. A viewfinder that is already black and white, and a camera roll that develops into grainy film when you save to your gallery. • Maps. A black and white map with no ads and no businesses you didn't ask for. Search, saved places, and directions you can follow with the screen off. • Phone and text. A big chunky keypad like your old phone had, your contacts, and texts through your messaging app, Signal, WhatsApp or Telegram. • Calendar and reminders. Your real calendars, and reminders that tell you on the minute. • Notes and voice memos. Plain text files. • Clock. Alarms that ring through silent, a timer and a stopwatch. • Games. Solitaire, minesweeper, snake steered with the keypad like you remember, and brick breaker on the click wheel. • Today. An overview of your upcoming events and reminders as well as newly dropped podcasts or articles from your feeds. Switch any section off in settings. It stays off. WHY IT FEELS DIFFERENT Unlike other minimal launchers, we don't just act as a springboard for other apps. 1bit has rebuilt an entire dumbphone experience, a mini phone inside your phone. It can still launch your other apps if you need, but maybe you won't want to ;) FIGHT BACK AGAINST DOOMSCROLLING Nothing here makes up reasons to pull you back. No algorithm trying to learn who you are. No notifications to tickle your dopamine. News ends. Music stops when the album ends. The browser displays everything through a 1bit filter and doesn't play videos at all. Pick a retro font. Pick a size. Dark mode, light mode, or auto. YOUR DATA We don't like having our data harvested so we don't collect yours. No account. No server of ours. No analytics. Sync uses your own Google Drive if you switch it on. WHAT YOU NEED A phone running Android 10 or later. THE PRICE Free for fourteen days, everything unlocked. Then one purchase, once. No subscription. Nothing else to buy.
