Vidut Lane

Plan 🗺️ darkroom prints in f-stops with test strips, zone maps and a timer. Vidut Lane is a workbench 🛠️ for black-and-white darkroom printing. It keeps one work print in front of you and does the exposure arithmetic in f-stops, so you can think in tones instead of seconds. Set a base time ⏱️ in 1/3-stop steps, note 📝 the negative and choose your paper. Every tool 🛠️ in Vidut Lane then edits the same print, and a change to the base time carries through to every other time. What you can do: - Build 🔨 an f-stop test strip with 5, 7, 9 or 11 patches and an increment from 1/12 to 1 stop. Read it as incremental cover steps or as separate exposures. - Paint a dodge and burn map 🗺️ on an 8 by 10 grid. Choose burn, dodge or erase, three brush sizes and a soft or hard filter 🎚️ channel. The legend lists each zone with its time ⏱️ in seconds. - Plan 🗺️ a split-grade print with soft and hard sliders and a target 🎯 grade. See 👀 the estimated grade, the light share 🤝 of each filter and an illustrative contrast curve. - Turn the plan 🗺️ into an exposure sequence. Base exposures, burns and dodge hold-backs appear as a rail and a list 📋 that you can reorder. - Run the sequence with a dim red timer made for the darkroom. It shows a lead-in, the current step, dodge cues and the next step, with pause ⏸️, skip and end controls. - Rescale a time ⏱️ with the enlarger calculator 🧮 when the head height, the print size or the aperture changes, then apply the result to the work print. - Log 📝 finished prints in the notebook. Search 🔍 them, filter 🎚️ by split, single, keepers or favourites, mark a verdict and load any recipe back onto the bench. - Attach a reference photo 📸 of the negative or a dried print to a recipe.
