Full description
【Please read first】 This app has no recipes, no meal plans and no cooking instructions. It does not cover nutrition or calories. It converts amounts, and that is all. Measures are Japanese: 1 tsp = 5 mL, 1 tbsp = 15 mL, 1 cup = 200 mL. US measures are different (tbsp about 14.8 mL, cup about 237 mL), so the cup figures here are roughly 20 percent smaller than American ones. ────────── 🥄 Japanese Cooking Measures - weights without a kitchen scale The recipe says 110 g of cake flour and there is no scale in the drawer. Pick the ingredient, type a number, and this app converts between Japanese spoons and cups and grams, in both directions. 【One tablespoon weighs a different amount for every ingredient】 A tablespoon (15 mL) is 15 g of water, 18 g of soy sauce, 21 g of honey, 9 g of fine Japanese sugar and only 3 g of panko breadcrumbs. Treating "1 tbsp" as a fixed 15 g is off by more than double for powders. 【And the same ingredient changes with the measure】 One teaspoon (5 mL) of johakuto sugar is 3 g, a density of 0.60. One cup (200 mL) of the same sugar is 130 g, a density of 0.65, because in a cup it packs down under its own weight. A single density per ingredient therefore cannot work. This app carries a table of 33 ingredients against each measure. 【Both directions】 Measure to grams: 2 tbsp of johakuto sugar is 18 g. Grams to measure: 50 g of johakuto sugar is about 5.6 tbsp, 16.7 tsp, or 0.38 of a cup. The second direction is the one people actually need: the recipe is in grams and there is no scale, so you want to know how many spoonfuls that is. 【33 ingredients】 Water, sake, vinegar, milk, heavy cream Soy sauce, mirin, miso, table salt, honey, mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire Johakuto sugar, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, butter Cake flour, bread flour, potato starch, cornstarch, gelatin, panko, grated cheese Sesame seeds, baking powder, baking soda, dashi granules, cocoa, matcha, pepper, curry powder Rice The list is deliberately short. Ingredients whose published figures disagree between sources, such as coarse salt, are left out rather than guessed. 【Combinations that are not used show a dash】 Spices are not measured by the cup, and rice is not measured by the spoon. Choose one of those and the app shows a dash instead of inventing a number. 【Rice can be measured in go】 The cup that comes with a rice cooker holds 180 mL, not the 200 mL of a kitchen measuring cup. 180 mL is one go in the old Japanese system, and one go of uncooked rice is about 150 g. Scaling the 170 g of a 200 mL cup down by 180/200 does not give 150 g, so one go is carried as its own value. 【Weight chart by ingredient】 See at a glance what 1 tsp, 1 tbsp and 1 cup weigh for all 33 ingredients. The figures are based on the standard measuring cup and spoon weight table from Kagawa Nutrition University. 【Presets】 1 tbsp, 2 tbsp, 1 tsp, half a tsp, 1 cup, half a cup, 1 go of rice, 50 g in spoons, 100 g in spoons. 【A history of the last five】 Tap to bring back a recent conversion. History is kept on the device only and can be cleared at any time. 【Notes included】 Why density changes between a spoon and a cup, how American measures differ, and why the type of salt changes the weight of a spoonful. 【No account needed】 The conversion runs on your device, and the amounts you type are never sent anywhere. ────────── NISAKE GAME makes small tools that each do one thing. These are general figures. The real weight varies with how damp the ingredient is, how coarse it is, and how firmly it is packed.
