Full description
PLEASE NOTE This app does not read your screen or convert any images. You type in numbers, and it gives you ratios and pixel counts. It never touches an image or video file. ────────── 🖥️ Aspect Ratio Calculator - including why there are two different 4Ks Type in 1920 and 1080 and you get: Ratio 16:9 Also written — (pick DCI 4K and it says 17:9) As a decimal 1.7778 Total pixels 2,073,600 px (about 2.07 MP) Standard FHD (1080p) Vs FHD 1.00 × ■ Four tabs ▪ Resolution - type a width and a height, and get the ratio, the decimal, the pixel count and the standard ▪ Ratio - pick a ratio, type one side, and get the other ▪ Standards - 23 of them, QVGA up to 8K UHD. Just pick a name ▪ Black bars - pick a screen and a video shape, and get the bar widths and how much of the screen is used ■ There are two different 4Ks Televisions, streaming and computer monitors use 3840 × 2160, which is 16:9. Cinemas and film production use 4096 × 2160, which is 256:135. "4K" only means about four thousand pixels across, and both qualify. The same goes for 2K: DCI 2K is 2048 × 1080, while calling 1920 × 1080 "2K" is a nickname. ■ No screen sold as 21:9 is actually 21:9 Reduce 2560 × 1080 and you get 64:27, or 2.3704 as a decimal. 3440 × 1440 gives 43:18, or 2.3889. True 21:9 would be 2.3333, and neither one reaches it. By contrast 32:9 (3840 × 1080 and 5120 × 1440) really is exactly 32:9. Some are exact and some are not, and you can see both on one screen. ■ Decimals to four places At three places, 43:18 (2.389) and 2.39:1 (2.390) look almost identical. Being able to tell those two apart is one of the things this app is for. ■ When a video will not export because of odd numbers Take 4:3 with 1024 as the height and the width comes out at 1365.3. Some formats will not accept that, so the nearest even number, 1366, sits right beside it. Color is stored in blocks of two by two pixels, which is why both sides have to be even. ■ Letterbox and pillarbox Put a 4:3 picture on a 1920 × 1080 screen and you get 240 px down each side, using 75.00% of the screen. A 2.39:1 film gives 138.3 px above and below, or 74.38%. Bars top and bottom are letterboxing; bars at the sides are pillarboxing. ■ The 23 standards QVGA, VGA, SVGA, XGA, HD (720p), WXGA, SXGA, HD+, UXGA, WSXGA+, FHD (1080p), WUXGA, DCI 2K, UW-FHD, WQHD (1440p), WQXGA, UWQHD, DFHD, 4K UHD, DCI 4K, DQHD, 5K, 8K UHD Fifteen ratios, from 9:16 for vertical video up to 32:9. ■ Only the width and the height are stored For each standard the app holds a name, a width and a height in pixels; for each ratio, a name and its two numbers; and a short note for some of them. Ratios, decimals, pixel counts and multiples are never stored — they are all worked out on the spot, so the numbers never disagree. ■ Features ▪ No account needed. The calculation runs on your device and your figures are never sent anywhere ▪ One screen, no settings page ▪ Japanese and English, by device language ▪ History of the last five lookups ▪ A full table of all 23 standards, and seven short notes "Standard" is filled in only when the width and the height are both exact. One pixel out and it shows a dash — the app never looks for the closest one. ────────── NISAKE GAME

What's new

• An ad now appears when the app starts • A Copy button now sits next to the result. It copies every line at once • Added FHD portrait (1080 × 1920), so there are 24 standards and vertical video is covered • The quick table heading now reads "in width order", which is how it has always been sorted
