Full description
Track B6 is called Afterglow, and on your fourth attempt it finally clicks. Pink flag, slip left. Cyan flag, hug the right. Each clean gate flings the chrome ball forward, the combo counter climbs past twenty, and the clock stops just inside par. Three diamonds light up. Then you notice your ghost was half a second behind you the whole way. Welcome to a synthwave slalom: a glowing grid, an endless sunset and a ball that keeps speeding up under one finger. HOW A RUN WORKS Drag left or right and the ball follows; it rolls forward on its own. Neon flag poles stand along the deck, and each one tells you which side to take. Cyan means pass on the right, pink means pass on the left, and arrows painted on the floor point the way. Thread a gate cleanly and you get a kick of speed. Go the wrong side, swing too wide or clip the pole, and your pace drops to 60% for a second. Between the flags come ramps, gaps, boost pads, waves, blocks, sliding movers and pillars, with pink crystals to collect as neon. TWELVE TRACKS, TWO SIDES The tracklist is laid out like a cassette. Side A opens with Night Drive and Laser Highway; Side B builds to Overdrive and Afterglow. Every track has a par time, which is what a perfect line through every gate would score. Finish within 2% of par for three diamonds, within 10% for two. When the tape runs out, Extended Mix serves up endless gates and asks a single question: how many metres can you ride? THE GARAGE Neon earned on the tracks buys new chrome for your ball, from Hot Pink and Laser Lime to Vaporwave, Midnight and a Gold Disc finish. The garage also stocks three power-ups to fire mid-run: Force Field bounces you off one crash, Tractor Beam pulls neon in for eight seconds, and Turbo Neon doubles what you collect for ten. RECORDS AND THE MIXER Twelve records hang on the Wall of Fame, among them On the Beat for making par, No Skips for a run without a missed gate, Perfect Mix for twenty clean gates in a row, and Platinum for three diamonds on all twelve tracks. The Mixer tunes steering sensitivity, haptics, the ghost and the moving grid behind the menus. Everything plays offline, with no account, no adverts and no in-app purchases; neon only comes from riding. The layout adapts to phones and tablets. RACE YOURSELF Your quickest line on each track is saved and comes back as a glowing ghost. Every attempt becomes a duel with the rider you were last time, and the screen shows, metre by metre, whether you are ahead or behind.
