NaviCav

NaviCav is a public transportation route planner application designed specifically for navigating the informal transit networks of Cavite. The application assists commuters by generating optimized routes for local Jeepneys, Tricycles, and Multicabs. By inputting a starting location and destination, users receive multiple travel options tailored to their highest priority—whether that is minimizing travel time, reducing fare costs, or finding for route alternatives. NaviCav also integrates real-time community-driven traffic advisories, comprehensive fare estimations, and personal navigation analytics to streamline the daily commuting experience. This application was developed as an academic thesis project focused on addressing the unique routing challenges of informal public transportation systems. NaviCav is powered by a custom Multi-Criteria Genetic Algorithm (MCGA). Traditional mapping applications typically calculate only the shortest physical distance. In contrast, our MCGA engine simulates hundreds of potential route and transfer combinations per search, simultaneously evaluating multiple conflicting criteria: travel time, commuting cost, structural transfers, and environmental emissions. This allows the system to compute highly optimized, real-world commuting paths that standard algorithms struggle to process.
