DiROC is an interactive course on the physics of magnetic resonance imaging: twenty steps that go from a hydrogen nucleus precessing in the field to designing a complete pulse sequence, each one with simulators you can drive yourself. It is not a book with animations on top. Everything the text claims can be checked by moving a control: change the TR and watch the recovery curves cross, narrow the bandwidth and watch the chemical shift grow, raise the matrix and see the Gibbs ringing shrink with the pixel instead of going away. WHAT IS INSIDE • 20 steps, from Larmor precession to sequence design, with 65 interactive simulators. • Console simulator: an MRI scanner with its real controls — TR, TE, FOV, matrix, bandwidth, parallel imaging, coils. A clinical request comes in, you plan it on the localiser and you scan; the image comes out with the noise and the artefacts it deserves. More than 900 requests and 27 complete protocols, with their series order and the moment to inject contrast. • An atlas of 31 pulse sequence diagrams from clinical practice, with the name each manufacturer gives them. • A self-assessment test with 3475 questions graded by difficulty; every wrong answer links to the exact point in the course where the answer was. • A classification of artefacts and an annotated bibliography.
