Full description
Every English Heritage, National Trust and Historic Houses property on one map, alongside Cadw, Historic Environment Scotland, National Trust for Scotland and Historic Royal Palaces. Plus over 500,000 listed buildings, scheduled monuments and other designated sites from the national registers of England, Wales and Scotland. One app instead of seven, and a record of everywhere you have been. SEE WHAT THE SURFACE HIDES Switch on the LiDAR terrain layer and the shape of the ground appears. Iron Age hillforts under forestry. Deserted medieval villages in empty fields. Centuries of ploughing under old pasture. It is laser-scanned elevation data at one metre resolution, covering England. Two views: the surface with the trees still on it, and the bare earth with them stripped away. Lay the Victorian Ordnance Survey over today's map, swipe between the two or set them side by side, and see what has gone. SEVEN ORGANISATIONS, ONE MAP Over 1,700 properties you can actually visit: - English Heritage - National Trust - Historic Houses - Cadw - Historic Environment Scotland - National Trust for Scotland - Historic Royal Palaces Each of them has its own app, and none of those apps shows you what the others look after. Visit History is the companion app that does. 500,000+ SITES, ACROSS GREAT BRITAIN Three national registers, in full: - England: the National Heritage List, 401,525 entries - Wales: Cadw, 34,359 - Scotland: Historic Environment Scotland, 75,966 Between them: listed buildings, scheduled monuments, registered parks and gardens, battlefields, protected wreck sites and World Heritage Sites. Plus featured places, chosen by us and suggested by the people who use the app. Send us your favourite and we will look at it. SITES ARE AREAS, NOT DOTS Where a designation has a mapped boundary, the map draws it rather than dropping a pin. A hillfort or a country estate covers ground, and now you can see how much. YOUR VISITS AND WISHLIST Been there? Mark it. Want to go? Add it to your wishlist. Record when you went and what you thought. Add photographs, taken in the app or picked from your phone. Choose what to share and what to keep private, note by note and photo by photo. Everything syncs to the cloud, so a new phone does not mean starting again. ALSO IN YOUR BROWSER The same account works at visithistory.online. The same map, the same visits, on a bigger screen. WHY THERE IS AN ACCOUNT Visit History keeps your visits, photographs and wishlist and syncs them between your phone and the website, so it needs to know whose they are. Sign in with Apple, Google or an email address. That is all it asks for. SUBSCRIPTION Seven days free, then £1 a month or £10 a year. Cancel any time. A subscription covers every dataset without ads, cloud storage for your visits and photographs, and any datasets added in future. ABOUT THE DATA Visit History is not affiliated with Historic England, with Cadw, with Historic Environment Scotland, or with any of the organisations whose properties it maps. All of it is compiled from publicly available data. National Heritage List for England data is used under the terms at https://historicengland.org.uk/terms/website-terms-conditions/open-data-hub/ © Crown Copyright and database right. Historic England (contains Ordnance Survey data), Cadw / Welsh Government, and Historic Environment Scotland, Scottish Charity No. SC045925 (contains Ordnance Survey data). OGL. LiDAR terrain data is from the Environment Agency under the Open Government Licence. Historic Ordnance Survey mapping is from the National Library of Scotland.

What's new

Historic Environment Scotland added as a fourth national source: 75,966 listed buildings, scheduled monuments, gardens, battlefields and World Heritage Sites, all searchable and recordable. • Sites now show their real boundary on the map, not just a pin. • Add several photos to a visit at once, and they upload faster.
