Your pet has a rocket. Where are you going first? Pets in Space is a math game that does not feel like one. Pick a cat, a dog, a rabbit, an otter, an axolotl or a penguin, blast off, and land somewhere new. Hidden under the ground are geodes, and the only way to dig one up is to solve a math problem. Get it right, the geode is yours. Bring your geodes home, crack them open, and find out what is inside. THE MATH Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, at three levels you choose: 1st grade, 2nd grade or 3rd grade. Kids type the answer on a number pad, so there is no guessing from four choices. Wrong answer? A new problem appears, no buzzer, no losing a life. There is a help chart one tap away for any kid who gets stuck, and the clock pauses while it is open. Most rounds work out to around five problems a minute, which is what a mad minute math sheet asks for, except this one has a rocket. CRACK THEM OPEN Forty crystals to find, from common quartz all the way up to the rare ones. Some geodes hold space junk instead: a bent spoon, an odd sock, a very old sandwich. Watch out for meteor showers, dust devils and sleepy space aliens, and look for a friendly astronaut who will hand you a geode.
