HELD - Communist Sightseeing

HELD is a field guide to the places where communist history happened, and a record of the ones you have stood in yourself. Over three thousand sites across the world: monuments and memorials, museums, party buildings still in use, the houses where organisers lived, the squares where risings began, the cemeteries of the soldiers who fought fascism. Each one researched and checked against independent sources before it appears. WHAT YOU CAN DO Browse by country or open the map and see what is around you. Every site carries its story and its address, and most link out to somewhere you can read more. Use Near Me when you are travelling. If you are standing at a site, the app offers to log it there and then. Keep a record. Sites you have visited come back in colour; a country turns red when you have seen every site in it. Earn badges for what your record actually contains — your first site, five countries, a check-in on May Day, and others you will find as you go. Contributing earns them too: a photograph of yours accepted as a site's cover, a correction approved, a site you suggested added to the map. Nothing is awarded for opening the app. Add comrades. Accepted comrades can see each other's visits and follow each other's badges. Nobody else can. Save sites you want to reach. Suggest ones that are missing, or corrections to ones that are wrong — every submission is reviewed before it is published. PRIVACY No advertising, no analytics, no tracking. Your location is used on your device to find what is near you, and we never receive it: a check-in records the site and the date, not where you were. Your visit record is visible only to comrades whose requests you have accepted. Browsing needs no account at all. You only need one to keep a record.
