Full description
Silex is a search engine that answers. Ask a question in plain words: Silex searches the web, reads the pages, and writes a short answer with its sources — using a language model that runs entirely on your phone. HOW IT WORKS • Silex turns your question into several search queries, and shows them to you before it starts. You can edit them. • It queries several public search engines in parallel and merges their results. • It opens the most relevant pages and extracts the passages that matter. • A local AI model reads those passages and writes the answer, citing each source so you can check it. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no sign-in, no API key. • No Silex server: your questions and answers never go through us. • The only network requests are the searches themselves and the pages being read. • Your history stays on your device. AN ANSWER SHAPED LIKE YOUR QUESTION A yes/no question gets a short answer. A how-to question gets a list of steps. An open question gets a broader overview. Every claim points back to the page it came from. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING • On first launch, Silex downloads its AI model (about 2.5 GB). Plan for the same amount of free storage. The download resumes on its own after an interruption, and the file is verified before use. • Answers take time: the work happens on your phone, not in a data center. Expect about a minute to several minutes depending on the question and your device. Silex shows every step as it happens. • Requires a 64-bit ARM device running Android 13 or later. A phone with 8 GB of RAM or more is recommended. Silex is for people who want answers from the open web, with sources, without handing their questions to a cloud service.
