Full description
Max Server turns your Android phone into a private file server on your own Wi-Fi. Open the address shown in the app in any web browser on your computer, type the PIN, and browse, upload and download your phone's files. No cable, no account and no software to install on the computer. Works with Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. HOW IT WORKS 1. Connect your phone and computer to the same Wi-Fi (or your phone's hotspot). 2. Tap Start in Max Server. 3. Open the address shown in the app on your computer and enter the 6-digit PIN. BROWSE AND ORGANISE • List view or photo-style grid view with adjustable thumbnail size • Sort by name (A–Z or Z–A), newest, oldest, largest, smallest or file type • Search the current folder and all subfolders • Create folders, rename, move and delete files • Select many files at once, with Shift and Ctrl/⌘ shortcuts TRANSFER FILES • Drag and drop files or whole folders from your computer to upload them to your phone • Download single files, a selection, or a whole folder as a ZIP • Live upload progress, with cancel • Large files are streamed, so videos and backups transfer smoothly PHOTOS AND VIDEOS • Fast thumbnails for photos and videos • Full-screen viewer: step through photos with the arrow keys and play videos in the browser RUNS IN THE BACKGROUND • The server keeps running while you use other apps • An ongoing notification shows that the server is on, with a Stop button • The phone stays awake during transfers and goes back to normal when you stop PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Files travel directly between your phone and your own browser. They are never uploaded to us or to any cloud. • A new random PIN every time you start the server, with a lockout after repeated wrong attempts • Nothing runs until you tap Start, and everything stops when you tap Stop • No sign-up and no analytics ABOUT PERMISSIONS • All files access: Max Server is a file server, so it needs access to your phone's shared storage (photos, downloads, documents and other folders) to list, preview, upload, download, rename, move and delete files. Files are only touched when you act from your browser. The app explains this before opening the system setting, and you can turn it off at any time in Android Settings. • Notifications: to show that the server is running and let you stop it. • Network and Wi-Fi state: to find your phone's local address on your Wi-Fi. The app does not read your Wi-Fi name or your location. GOOD TO KNOW • Your phone and computer must be on the same network. • The local connection uses plain HTTP and is not encrypted, so use Max Server on networks you trust, such as your home Wi-Fi or your phone's hotspot, and stop the server when you are done. • Max Server is free and shows ads from Google AdMob in the phone app. The browser dashboard has no ad network.
