Mary Care TV

Mary Care TV turns a compatible Android TV into a simpler, more familiar home screen. Everything is large, high-contrast and reached with the remote's arrow keys and OK — no small text, no menus to get lost in. The screen greets the viewer by name with the time and day, and a prominent Help button lets them ask their family for support at any moment. Choices are grouped into a single row of clear tabs: TV, Streaming, Music, Videos, Memories, Games and Your Day, with a Favourites tab for the handful of things used most. Each tab holds the apps the family has chosen, so there is something recognisable to watch without hunting for it. Your Day lists today's reminders, each with the person it concerns. With a Mary Care account, an authorised family member can personalise all of this from the Mary portal — which apps appear on each tab, what they are called, how much is shown, and the picture behind it all. Optional remote support uses Android's AccessibilityService API to let an authorised family carer see the TV screen and help navigate Mary and other apps. During support, screenshots are sent through Mary Care's servers to that carer. They may include the greeting name, family photos, installed app names and icons, and other content the person or their family creates, such as custom labels and reminders (including appointments or medication). Other information visible in an app may also appear. This lets the carer understand the screen and guide the person. The app explains this and asks for agreement before opening Android Accessibility settings. Remote support can be declined, and switched off in those settings at any time. Screen images are sent only during remote support. Optional Home button protection uses the same Mary Care TV accessibility service to notice when the Google TV or Android TV home screen opens and return to Mary. Home protection uses app and window names locally without reading screen text, taking screenshots, saving those events or sending them anywhere. There is one Mary Care TV switch in Android Accessibility settings, with separate agreement and controls for Home protection and remote support inside Mary. Enabling Home protection does not enable remote support. Hold Back for five seconds on Mary's home screen, then release, to open Carer settings and control each feature. Disabling the Android switch stops both. TV settings, voice commands and app shortcut buttons remain available.
