Remember one master password and get a strong, different password for every site, without saving any of them. Add a short word for each site, like "gmail", and Lyn gives you the same password every time you need it. How it works You pick a master password that only you know. For each site or app you add a seed, a short word like "gmail" or "bank". The app combines the two and turns the result into a password. The same master password and seed always give the same password. Change the seed, and you get a completely different one. It works the same way in the app on Android, iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows, and on our website. Type the same two things anywhere, and you get the same password. Sharing a secret with someone Two people who know the same master password and seed get the same password, each in the app on their own device. That makes Lyn an easy way to agree on a database password, a secret for a .env file or a Wi-Fi password without sending it by email or chat. Agree on a separate master password in person once, and use it only for what you share. Why not just store the passwords? A password that is never stored can't leak from the app, from a cloud backup or from a hacked server. There is no vault to break into. The app makes the password on your device and does not need an internet connection to do it. What you have to remember Your master password, and which seed you used for each account. The seeds are not secret in the same way. Without the master password they are useless, so it is fine to keep a list of them. If you forget your master password, your passwords are gone. We can't help you get them back, because we never had them. What you can adjust • Length from 8 to 256 characters. 16 is the default. • Special characters on or off, for sites that don't accept them. • Show or hide the master password while you type. • Eight color themes, each in light or dark. English or Norwegian. The app remembers these settings on your device. It never remembers your master password, your seeds or the passwords it makes. When you tap copy, the password goes to your clipboard like any other text you copy. A few tips: Use a long master password that you don't use anywhere else. A short sentence works well.
