中国象棋是起源于中国的一种棋，属于二人对抗性游戏的一种，在中国有着悠久的历史。由于用具简单，趣味性强，成为流行极为广泛的棋艺活动。中国象棋是中国棋文化，也是中华民族的文化瑰宝，它源远流长，趣味浓厚，基本规则简明易懂。中国象棋在中国的群众中基础远远超过围棋，是普及最广的棋类项目，中国象棋已流传到十几个国家和地区。中国象棋使用方形格状棋盘，圆形棋子共有32个，红黑二色各有16个棋子，摆放和活动在交叉点上。双方交替行棋，先把对方的将（帅）“将死”的一方获胜。本游戏有如下残局分类：双车类单车类车马炮类车马类车炮类车兵类车炮兵类车马兵类双马类单马类马兵类双炮类单炮类炮兵类马炮类马炮兵类兵类实用残局100 周孟芳残排弈海征帆弈海烟波现代排局象棋老谱象棋路边摊极巧穷奇残局杀局妙和百局少子百局谱三国七子谱七子百局谱胜势残局陶情弈趣残局攻杀规则：马走日，象走田，车走直路炮翻山，士走斜线护将边，小卒一去不回还。车走直路马踏斜，象飞田字炮打隔，卒子过河了不得。这是中国象棋走法口诀。其解释为：马为骑兵，直走斜砍，故走日；象为军师，防卫营地，故走田。车为战车，横冲直撞，故走直路。炮为火炮，隔空打远，故谓翻山。士为卫士，贴身保护，故在将边。卒如荆轲，那当然是一去不复返。早期的象棋，棋制由棋、箸、局等三种器具组成。两方行棋，每方六子，分别为：枭、卢、雉、犊、塞（二枚）。棋子用象牙雕刻而成。箸，相当于骰子，在棋之前先要投箸。局，是一种方形的棋盘。比赛时，“投六箸，行六棋”，斗巧斗智，相互进攻逼迫，而制对方于死地。春秋战国时的兵制，以五人为伍，设伍长一人，共六人，当时作为军事训练的足球游戏，也是每方六人。由此可见，早期的象棋，是象征当时战斗的一种游戏。在这种棋制的基础上，后来又出现一种叫"塞"的棋戏，只行棋不投箸，摆脱了早期象棋中侥幸取胜的成分。
