How to convert currencies

Every currency app can tell you what a euro is worth right now. Almost none can tell you what it was worth on March 14 — the only number that matters when you are filing an expense report, reconciling a credit card statement after a vacation, or answering a question from your accountant. How to convert currencies treats history as a lookup, not a decoration. RATE ON ANY DATE Pick a date, pick a pair, get the exact rate. European Central Bank reference rates, daily, back to 1999. Every result names its source and the day it was published, and gives you a line that pastes straight into an expense report: €142.50 @ 1.1450 ECB 13 Mar 2026 = $163.16 WEEKENDS HANDLED PROPERLY No rate is published on a Saturday. The app uses the previous business day's rate and tells you it did — which is what tax authorities do, and exactly the question it saves you. YOUR FAVORITE CURRENCIES, IN YOUR ORDER Keep the currencies you use on one screen — dollars, euros, pesos, yen, whatever the trip needs — in the order you choose, never reshuffled. Move any of them up or down, tap a row to type in it, and every other row follows as you type. Your home currency stays pinned at the top, and the ones you picked recently wait at the top of the currency list. WHAT YOUR CARD ACTUALLY CHARGES Many US cards add a foreign transaction fee of around 3%. Add yours, an exchange counter's spread, or an ATM's percentage and flat fee, and every row shows what it really costs alongside the mid-market rate. Because a flat $5 fee is 5% of a $100 withdrawal and 1.25% of a $400 one, the app works out the true percentage for the amount you are actually converting. If a card reader abroad offers to charge you in dollars, the app explains why to decline. BILLS AND COINS Taking cash? See any amount as the bills and coins you would actually hand over, for 23 everyday currencies, rounded to the nearest amount you can pay in cash. THE RATE OVER TIME A chart for any pair over a week, a month, three months, six months, a year or two. Tap or drag the line to read any single day. Gaps are weekends and holidays, drawn as gaps rather than smoothed over, because the ECB does not publish on them. HOME SCREEN WIDGETS Thirteen widgets, from a single square to a full calculator: your currencies, one pair both ways, a 30-day rate chart, today's biggest movers, last month's average for expense reports, a week of daily rates, what your card or an exchange counter really charges, and travel cash broken into bills and coins. Each pair widget asks which pair to show, so two charts can follow two pairs. Every one is in Settings > Widgets. IN YOUR LANGUAGE 25 languages, from Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese to Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai, with numbers and dates written the way each language writes them. WORKS OFFLINE Rates are cached as they are fetched, with a plain "rates as of" line. A cached number never pretends to be a live one — and a weekend is never mistaken for a stale one. 180+ CURRENCIES Every circulating currency, plus withdrawn ones for old invoices: marks, francs, lira and the rest, at their irrevocable euro rates. Precious metals and major cryptocurrencies are there too, always labeled indicative, because an exchange aggregate is not a published fixing. NO ADS. NO ACCOUNT. NO TRACKING. No advertising, at any tier. No sign-in, no email address, no analytics. The only permission the app asks for is network access, and by default the only thing that leaves your phone is a request for a rate — carrying no identifier and nothing about you. Crash reporting is a single switch in Settings, off until you turn it on. WHAT IT ISN'T Not a money transfer app, not a budgeting app, not a trading app. It converts currencies and looks up historical rates. That is the whole product, and it is deliberate.
