Full description
Deckster turns any group of phones into a quiz night. One person opens a room on their phone's hotspot, everyone else joins it, and the same question appears on every screen at once. No internet. No account. No signup. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload it to — the game runs entirely between the phones in the room. HOW IT WORKS One phone hosts. Turn on your hotspot, pick your questions, and open a room. Everyone else connects to that hotspot and taps Look for a room — no codes to read out, no addresses to type. Everyone answers at the same time, on a shared clock. Change your mind as often as you like; whatever is selected when the timer hits zero is what counts. Faster answers score more. At the end, the standings — Summa Cum Laude down to Study harder! — and every question with its correct answer, so the arguments have somewhere to go. 4,468 QUESTIONS INCLUDED Twenty-four categories, from General Knowledge to Mythology, at three difficulties. Pick the ones you want, or play them all. They ship inside the app, so they work with no connection at all. WRITE YOUR OWN There is a free question builder on the web. Write your questions, mark the correct answers, and download a file the app reads. Ready-made sets for Chemistry, Physics, English grammar and Mathematics are there to start from — fifty questions each, all editable. LOCK YOUR QUESTIONS Build a questionnaire with a password and the file is encrypted. Send it to whoever is hosting, put it in a class group chat, leave it on a shared drive — the answers cannot be read out of it without the password. Type the password in the app and play. Everything happens on the phone, so this works with no connection either. PRACTICE ALONE No hotspot, no room, nobody else. Take a round by yourself, from the built-in questions or from a file you wrote. Useful for revision, and for finding out whether your quiz is too hard before you inflict it on anyone. RUN THE QUIZ INSTEAD OF PLAYING IT Host a quiz (Moderated) hands one person the room without putting them in the round. They are not scored and do not appear in the standings — they run it. Each question stops twice. First when the timer ends: answers lock, and nobody is told anything yet, so the room can argue before it finds out. Then, when you are ready, the answer appears on every screen at once, along with who got it right. You hold the answer sheet the whole time — it sits on your phone, hidden, one tap away whenever you want to check it. You can also stop a round part way through and start it again; nothing is scored and the questions go back in the pool. FOR CLASSROOMS Up to a hundred questions in a round. No limit on how many phones join. A phone that walks out of range stops holding a place. Nothing about a game is stored once it ends. FOR PARTIES Ten seconds a question by default, adjustable from five to fifteen. Ten questions by default. Everyone picks a name and an animal, and the table fills up as people arrive. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO No advertising. No analytics. No tracking of any kind. No permissions beyond the local network it needs to find the other phones. It cannot see your contacts, your location, your camera or your photos. Questions from the Open Trivia Database, used under CC BY-SA 4.0.

What's new

New: Host a quiz (Moderated) — for classrooms. One person runs the round instead of playing in it. They see the question, how many have answered, and the answer itself, hidden until they tap to check it. Each question now stops twice. First when the timer ends, so the room can talk before anyone finds out. Then, when the host is ready, the answer appears along with who got it right. The host can also end a round early and start again. Multiplayer and Practice are unchanged.
