Full description
Driving late at night? Latewise checks in with you, by voice and hands-free. When you start a drive inside the late window you choose (23:00 to 05:00 by default), Latewise opens on your screen (over the lock screen once you allow full-screen notifications) and asks two to four quick yes/no questions out loud: Are you driving? Have you had any alcohol tonight? Are you feeling tired or sleepy? Did you sleep less than six hours last night? You answer every question by speaking, without touching or looking at your phone. Then you get a clear result, spoken and shown in big colour: • GREEN: your answers raised no warning signs. • YELLOW: you feel tired, or Latewise couldn't hear you. Take a break soon. • RED: you've had alcohol, or you're tired after less than six hours of sleep. Latewise asks you to pull over somewhere safe, and an alarm rings until you tap OK, for up to two minutes. HOW IT KNOWS YOU'RE DRIVING • Your car's Bluetooth: pick your car once, and Latewise starts when your phone connects to it. • Activity recognition: Google Play services notices when you're riding in a vehicle, so it also works in a car without Bluetooth. • Once per trip: a short stop doesn't start a second check-in, and a passenger simply answers "no" to "Are you driving?". MADE FOR THE ROAD • Voice only: the questions are spoken and your answers are heard. • Music on your phone pauses while Latewise talks and resumes afterwards. • The voice and the alarm play through your car's speakers when its Bluetooth audio is connected, at a volume you choose. • Optional reaction test: after a red or yellow result, once you're stopped, tap "I'm stopped, start the test" for a five-round tap test of your reaction time. It never changes the result. • Your recent check-ins are listed on the main screen, and a set-up guide walks you through every permission, including battery settings on Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi phones. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account, no ads, no analytics and no servers. Latewise has no internet permission at all, and your check-ins stay on your phone. Your spoken answers are understood by your phone's speech recognition service (usually Google's), which may process them online under its own privacy policy; Latewise itself only receives the recognised words. PLEASE NOTE Latewise is a reminder to check in with yourself. It is not a breathalyser or a medical device: it cannot measure alcohol or tiredness, and it cannot tell whether you are fit to drive. If you have been drinking, don't drive. Always follow the law and your own judgement. Latewise speaks and listens in English. It needs Android 10 or newer, and Google Play services for activity recognition.
