Matiko

Matiko is a free daily maths practice app for children in England, from Year 3 to Year 11, and for the parents and carers who help them. It follows the National Curriculum for England, in English. A parent or carer creates the account and adds a profile for each child. Children under 13 do not have their own login: the adult signs in and taps the child's profile. A PLAN FROM A SHORT STARTING CHECK Each child begins with a short starting check for their year group. From it, and from what the child does each day, Matiko makes the daily plan itself, and the plan screen says so in plain words. ONE STEP A DAY Each day opens with a short "Getting ready" screen: how long today should take, how many sections there are and which topics come up. Then the step: Recall, Example, Your turn, On your own and Close. A child can also write down how they thought about a question. HELP NEVER GIVES THE ANSWER In "Your turn", help comes one step at a time. Each step says a little more, never the answer. The full solution opens only after a real attempt, and after it comes a similar new question to try. ON YOUR OWN In one section hints and feedback are off, so the child can see what they can do unaided. At the close each question shows its result, the correct answer and how to solve it. END OF DAY There are no points. The day's work is written out by how it was done: on your own, with help, or not yet known. If the child disagrees, they can tap "This does not look right". AN HOUR A DAY IS A TARGET, NOT A LIMIT The day runs to the planned time, not to a number of questions. An hour a day is the target at every age; a child may do less or more, and the app does not cut them off. Work can be paused at any point and picked up where it was left. FOR THE ADULT The adult on the account sees each child's week: days practised, the topics in focus and a short summary. WHAT IS NOT HERE No ads. Nothing is ever sold to the child. No points, rankings or comparison with other children. No chat of any kind. No promises about exam results or school grades. GETTING STARTED The adult signs up with an email address (Google sign-in is also available), adds each child and chooses their year group. Matiko is also used by schools in Türkiye, in Turkish, for grades 7 and 8; pupils there sign in with a class code and a personal code from their teacher.
