Knotwright Rope Studio is an offline rope-craft trainer for people who need knots to hold in the real world — Scout leaders working rope badges, climbers learning to dress a figure-eight follow-through, boat-club beginners tying dock lines, and car campers tensioning a guy line. Most knot apps show you a finished knot and hope you remember it. Knotwright makes you build the knot's over/under structure yourself, then load it to see whether it holds. CROSSING-FLIP STAGE (SIGNATURE) Every knot opens as a diagram of numbered crossings on a dimetric rope render. Tap a crossing to flip the strand under or over — spring animation and haptic confirm each flip, and a live structure strip along the bottom turns green as the weave becomes valid. You are not watching a knot. You are threading it. DRESS & LOAD TENSION RIG Once the weave is valid, press and hold Load. Two steel pins pull apart, the knot visibly deforms, and it resolves one of three ways: Lock, Creep/Slip, or Capsize — each with a plain-language verdict explaining why that structure behaved that way. KNOT ATLAS 48 seeded knots across 8 families — hitches, bends, loops, stoppers, bindings, lashings, fishing knots and climbing knots — each with an ABOK reference number, use tags, difficulty, jam and slip ratings, and a grip-retention estimate expressed as a percentage of line strength. STEP PLAYER 3D-styled strand animation for all 48 knots with a 0.25x–2x scrubber, hold-to-highlight working end, mirrored mode for left-handed tying, and per-step captions. LOAD LAB Choose rope material (nylon, polyester, Dyneema/SK75, manila), set the diameter, toggle wet or dry, and pick a use context (bend, hitch, loop) to see estimated breaking strength, elongation and wet-slip cautions visualised on the deforming rig. A bowline keeps roughly two-thirds of line strength; wet Dyneema slips far earlier — the rig shows you the difference. JOB QUIZ 120 seeded scenario cards — "moor to a piling with a varying tide load", "tie off a tarp grommet", "rescue a jammed belay line". Choose the knot, then prove it by flipping its crossings. SPEED DRILL Timed crossing-flip runs with a combo counter and an accuracy penalty for wrong flips. Personal bests are stored per knot, and drill history appears as sparkline bars per knot family. ROPE PACKS Curated checklists — Camping Guy Lines, Climbing Anchor Kit, Docking & Mooring, Scout Rope Badge, Fishing Tackle, Rescue Basics — with progress rings, prerequisite ordering, and a shareable knot-card image generated on your device. RETIE REMINDERS Optional spaced-repetition nudges for knots missed in quizzes, a configurable refresher cadence, and a home-screen widget showing the Knot of the Day. PRIVATE AND OFFLINE-FIRST No sign-in. No ads. No analytics SDKs. No uploads. All content is bundled with the app and all progress stays on your device. An outdoor high-contrast mode keeps the rig readable in bright daylight. Rope work is a physical skill, and no app replaces hands-on instruction or a qualified instructor for climbing and rescue systems.
