Full description
Keep your phone in your pocket while you go to the edges of the map. When you need to connect to the world, you've got exactly where to go ready and waiting. If there are floods or wildfires nearby, the app will let you know with direction and distance as well as draw the impacted areas on your offline maps. Edge of the Wilds watches your signal so you don't have to. Need to backtrack to signal? The offline maps make it easy by giving you bread crumbs to follow back to civilization. Hansel and Gretel would have never met the witch if they could have followed these bread crumbs. Set your own coverage target — anything from "any phone signal" up to "4 bars of 5G" — and Edge of the Wilds checks it in the background on a schedule you control. Keep the phone in your pocket and get notified the moment you're back in range, or set a loss-of-coverage alarm that goes off if you've gone too long without service. The biggest drain on your battery is constantly checking the screen, and is probably the biggest source of battery anxiety: by keeping the phone screen off, you save the battery for making that urgent call when you need to. WHERE DID I HAVE SIGNAL? Every successful check logs your GPS location on an automatically downloaded offline topographic map, so you can see exactly where your coverage stopped and retrace your steps back to it if you lose signal out in the wilds. Maps work fully offline once downloaded, they automatically cull old unused maps to keep the storage use minimal, and will download ahead of you before you start to lose signal. NEVER GET CAUGHT OFF-GRID WITHOUT KNOWING A separate loss-of-coverage alarm fires if you've gone too long without meeting your target. The app delivers this as a real ringing alarm that breaks through Do Not Disturb and shows over your lock screen, or as a quieter notification: your choice. WILDFIRE AWARENESS Turn on proximity alerts to get notified if a confirmed wildfire incident (from the National Interagency Fire Center) turns up within a distance you set, with the fire's perimeter drawn right on your offline map. No guessing, no worries, no getting caught unaware. KNOW YOUR REAL CONNECTION SPEED Turn on the optional speed test to cross-check your radio's signal reading against real download throughput — useful when "full bars" doesn't always mean a fast connection. BUILT FOR HEAVY USE, NOT YOUR BATTERY Checks run on your schedule from every minute to as infrequently as you like. You can automatically speed up to once a minute whenever your phone is charging above 80% battery, at essentially no cost to your battery life by a single setting change. YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE We don't want your data. To that end, we have no accounts, no sign-in, no ads, and nothing about your coverage history or location is uploaded anywhere. Your logged checks and downloaded maps live in local storage on your phone, so delete them any time from Settings. We also encrypt the data, just in case. Offline maps and wildfire data currently cover the United States. Edge of the Wilds is built for hikers, backcountry travelers, vacationers on the edges of the cellphone coverage map, rural commuters, delivery drivers, and anyone who needs to know where their signal actually holds: not just where the carrier's coverage map says it should.

What's new

Added burn scar and flood information. Burn scar information is off by default, and provides historic burn information. Added scaling for "You are here".
