Full description
From your very first sudoku to the hard puzzles that stop you cold, this app tells you where to look next. No ads interrupt your moves, so you can keep a smooth pace. NEW TO SUDOKU? START HERE The easiest level, Very easy, starts with simply filling in empty cells - no hints or notes needed. Enter a wrong digit and the Check button blinks right away (up to Normal), so you can move forward one cell at a time with confidence. Guided lessons show the taps on screen, so you can learn to play from scratch. WHY, NOT JUST WHAT Stuck? Press a hint button. The board lights up while the reasoning is spelled out one line at a time. "In this row, the 7 can only go in these two cells." "So the 7 comes off this one." The lighting follows the lines of text, so you can follow the argument just by watching. Read it through, then press "Apply this hint" to have it entered for you. Hints only light up when they work for the number you have selected. Switch numbers and the buttons come on and off, so you always know where to look. 27 TECHNIQUES, EASIEST FIRST Pointing, Box/Line Reduction, Naked Subsets, X-Wing, Unique Rectangle, colouring, XY-Chain, ALS-XZ, Sue de Coq and more - 27 of the techniques you find in sudoku books. Every one has its own page with diagrams: what the shape looks like, why the conclusion holds, and how to hunt for it. The goal is that you stop needing the hint button. MORE TOOLS AS YOU CLIMB Five difficulties, from Very easy to Very hard. Very easy to Normal are open from the start; from Hard on, each opens when you clear the one below. The hint buttons grow with them. Every button on day one would tell you nothing. You meet them a few at a time, as the puzzles start to need them. ONE PUZZLE A DAY: TODAY'S TEST Take on the same puzzle as everyone else, every day. The next day you see your score, standard score and rank. Review past puzzles from the calendar - every day you score 100 turns into a medal. Fill your calendar with medals. You can also get a reminder at the time you choose. FOUR GUIDED LESSONS - Entering digits: how sudoku works at all - Using hints: how to read them and put them to work - Using notes: writing candidates, and the hints that use them - Solving Hard: the techniques the Hard level adds Each one plays out on a real board with the taps shown, so you are watching rather than reading. They start by themselves the first time you pick a difficulty, and you can replay any of them from "How to play". HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT - Enter a wrong digit and the Check button blinks to let you know - When no hint button is lit, the number buttons that have a hint gently blink - Shading for cells a digit cannot go in, auto-erasing notes and more Turn the help down in the settings as you get comfortable - it is good practice. SCORING Out of 100. Every candidate a hint removes for you comes off your score. Solve it without hints and you keep all 100. ALSO INSIDE - Records: your last ten scores and their average, per difficulty - Passwords: hand the exact same puzzle to someone else - Puzzle maker: lay out your own grid, check that it is solvable, then play it - Settings for auto-erasing notes, long-press behaviour, board position, sound effects and music - No internet needed for regular puzzles (Today's test uses it to fetch puzzles and send results) - No account and no sign-up Available in 24 languages.

What's new

• Ahead of release in Europe, the app now asks for consent on how data is used for ads (shown only to players in Europe) • Fixed a hint explanation staying open into the next puzzle if it was open when you finished • Tidied up the order of the animation when a new level appears on the level screen
