Full description
Chandrika is a quiet, free, offline Hindu panchang and calendar. Open it and the day's tithi is the first thing you see — with the time it began and the time it ends, not just its name. Every figure is calculated on your device, so it works in aeroplane mode or on a train with no signal. No account, no sign-up, no subscription. CHOGHADIYA, DAY AND NIGHT All sixteen choghadiya periods — eight from sunrise to sunset, eight from sunset to the next sunrise — each named (Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Char, Udveg, Kaal, Rog) and marked auspicious or not. The one running right now is highlighted. Every slot comes from your own city's sunrise and sunset. HORA, HOUR BY HOUR Aaj ka hora at a glance: which planet rules the hour running now, what that hora is traditionally good for, and when the next one begins. Twelve horas by day and twelve by night from your city's sunrise and sunset, with the shubh horas of Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the Moon in green. RAHU KAAL, AND THE OTHER DAY WINDOWS Rahu Kaal is one eighth of the daylit day, so it moves with your city and the season. Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal sit beside it, with Abhijit Muhurat in green beneath (left out on Wednesday, as tradition holds). ANY DATE, NOT ONLY TODAY Step to yesterday or tomorrow, or jump to any date. Aaj ka panchang opens first; a wedding, a journey or a date last year is one tap away. A HINDU CALENDAR, A MONTH AT A TIME A month grid with the Moon drawn for every day, the sunrise tithi numbered, and marks for festivals and vrats, with the lunar month and Vikram Samvat in the header. Tap any day to open it in full. FESTIVALS AND VRATS, BY NAME Diwali, Holi, Maha Shivratri, Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Dussehra, Karwa Chauth, Raksha Bandhan, Chhath Puja, Makar Sankranti, Ram Navami, Guru Purnima, Hanuman Jayanti and more — each on the date your panchang gives it, not a fixed English date. Every Ekadashi by its own name, and Purnima, Amavasya, Pradosh, Sankashti Chaturthi, Masik Shivratri and Vinayaka Chaturthi. The home screen carries the next few. DIWALI AND DHANTERAS PUJA MUHURAT On Dhanteras and Diwali the day shows the puja muhurat for your city: the Lakshmi Puja time, with Pradosh Kaal and Vrishabha Kaal beside it. The 6 AM notification leads with it. WHAT YOU GET EACH DAY • Tithi, with start and end times — including when it runs past midnight into the next day • Nakshatra, yoga and karana, each with the time it ends • Vara (weekday) • Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset for your city • The lunar month, Purnimanta and Amanta, with adhik months named • Vikram Samvat, Shaka Samvat and the ritu • Paksha — Shukla or Krishna — with the Moon drawn in its true shape HINDI AND ENGLISH One tap switches the whole interface, down to tithi, nakshatra, festival and city names in Devanagari. YOUR CITY, WITHOUT GIVING UP YOUR LOCATION Pick from 44 cities across India and abroad instead of granting location permission. Your choice stays on your phone. ONE NOTIFICATION A DAY, IF YOU WANT IT Switch on "Daily tithi" for the day's tithi at 6:00 each morning. It is off until you turn it on, and it is the only notification the app sends. A HOME-SCREEN WIDGET Today's tithi and nakshatra on your home screen, with no app to open. HOW IT IS CALCULATED Sun and Moon positions come from standard astronomical algorithms (Meeus), with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa that Indian almanacs use. The five limbs are taken at sunrise, as printed panchangs do. Festivals, vrats and horas are checked against published panchang tables. ONE SMALL BANNER, AND NOTHING ELSE One small advert along the bottom edge. It never covers the timings and never opens by itself; there are no full-screen adverts and no videos, and with no connection it is not there at all. Analytics for Firebase counts which screens get opened, Crashlytics reports crashes, and adverts come from Google AdMob, which uses your device's advertising ID. Your panchang data and your city choice never leave your phone.

What's new
