ImNearBy: Lost Friend Finder

Spend less time searching and more time together. ImNearBy helps you find someone you already know using a private invitation, live map locations and nearby signal guidance. Whether you are meeting a friend or finding your companion in an unfamiliar place, start a temporary session and share your invitation through your preferred messaging app. SHARE AN INVITATION Create a meeting invitation and send its QR image or complete text through WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, email or another sharing app. Your partner reviews the invitation and accepts before their location sharing starts. JOIN YOUR WAY Open an invitation link, paste the complete invitation, or choose a saved QR image or screenshot. You can also share invitation text or an image directly to ImNearBy through Android’s Share menu. SEE EACH OTHER ON THE MAP View your location and your partner’s location on a map. Positions update automatically as fresh location messages arrive. Accuracy circles show uncertainty, and saved or outdated positions are clearly labelled. Keep both locations in view or explore the map yourself. GET NEARBY GUIDANCE Use Bluetooth signal trends for approximate hot/cold guidance. The radar helps you understand changes in proximity, with optional sound and vibration. Compatible phones can also use experimental Wi-Fi Aware/RTT and UWB features. SHARE COMPASS READINGS Direct connections exchange compass headings to support meeting guidance. When location and compass readings are reliable enough, a directional arrow points toward your partner’s reported position. STAY IN CONTROL Choose a temporary session duration and stop sharing at any time. Sharing can continue through a foreground service while another app is open or the screen is off. No account is required. This version contains no ads or analytics SDK. UNDERSTAND CONNECTIVITY Live updates over longer distances require an HTTPS relay configured by you or your invitation sender. ImNearBy does not include a hosted public relay service. Without a relay, a complete invitation carries a saved location. Compatible nearby phones can then exchange encrypted live updates directly through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Downloading map tiles requires internet access; previously cached areas may remain visible offline. KNOW THE LIMITS GPS accuracy and nearby signal strength vary with your surroundings, permissions and hardware. Bluetooth hot/cold readings are approximate. Wi-Fi ranging and UWB require compatible devices and are experimental. Compass headings show where phones face; they do not independently locate another person. Directional arrows indicate a straight-line bearing, not a walking route. PRIVATE INVITATIONS Session messages are encrypted. Anyone holding the complete invitation may access the session, so share it only with people you trust. Online map requests reveal your IP address and the viewed map area to OpenStreetMap; online maps can be disabled in Settings.
