They remain in the dungeon as an echo, and on a future descent, you may come face to face with a grave you left yourself — one you can either lay to rest with a quiet prayer, or fight. Every descent is a genuine, permadeath run — but nothing is ever truly wasted. The records you leave behind, the legacies you build, and rumors of legendary gear all make the next attempt a little easier.
