A equipe Phoenix Robot (Colégio SESI-MA), participando do Torneio de Robótica FIRST LEGO League Challenge, foram desafiados a explorar o fascinante mundo da tecnologia, arte e design. A pergunta central para os desafios e projetos era: "Como você pode usar a tecnologia e as artes para inspirar e envolver outras pessoas?". O evidente desinteresse pela cultura das novas gerações acentua o menor número de pessoas que praticam atividades culturais. Assim, com o objetivo incentivar crianças e jovens a se interessarem pela cultura do maranhão, a Phoenix Robot, decidiu criar um jogo inspirado no Guittar hero que utilize a Caixa do divino (instrumento típico da cultura maranhense), ao invés de uma guitarra. Para o desenvolvimento do jogo, foi feita uma parceria com o estúdio de desenvolvimento de jogos independentes, também maranhense, da cidade de Timon, HS Studio. Assim nasceu o Tambor Hero.
