Full description
Quick start Choose a gain level, or press Auto Level and let Honest Ear find a safe starting point. Play a loud part, make sure the meter stays out of the red, then record. Most phone recorders try to “fix” your sound automatically. They make quiet parts louder, loud parts softer, and remove things they think are noise. That can make your recording sound cleaner, but it also makes it less honest. Honest Ear records what you actually play. You can finally hear the real difference between loud and quiet, soft and strong, near and far. If you play gently, it stays gentle. If you hit hard, it sounds loud. Nothing secretly smooths it out. Record • No automatic volume changes. • No hidden voice cleanup. • No noise reduction changing your sound. • You choose the recording level yourself. • Auto Level can help you find a good starting level. • Clear meter shows when the sound is safe, strong, or too loud. • Keeps recording even when your screen is off. Save and export • Recordings are named automatically, for example: Take 2026-05-06 14-32. • Save as WAV, FLAC, or MP3. • WAV gives you the most direct quality. • FLAC keeps high quality while using less space. • MP3 is smaller and easier to share. • If something goes wrong during export, a WAV backup is saved. Review • See your recording as a waveform while you record. • Play back, scrub, rename, add notes, share, or delete. • Undo recent deletes. Storage • Shows how much recording time is left. • Warns you when space is running low. • Stops new recordings if there is not enough safe space. Honest Ear is for musicians who want their phone to record the truth — not a polished version chosen by the phone.

What's new

• Interactive Feature Guide: New walkthrough on first launch explaining Auto Level calibration, live peak metering, and audio export formats. • Community & Support: Direct access in Settings to send feedback ([email protected]), rate Honest Ear, or revisit the Feature Guide. • Non-intrusive in-app review prompt after milestone recordings. • UI and performance refinements across the dark recorder interface.
